Taru is a new and modern Japanese restaurant located next to the Baccarat Hotel and across the street from the Museum of Modern Art. Nestled behind the dining room is an intimate 10-seat omakase room that houses a seasonally-rotating residency of omakase chefs serving their own unique style of cuisine.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Chef de Cuisine to join our close knit kitchen team. This is a heavy cooking position with administrative duties including but not limited to ordering, inventory, and scheduling. The candidate is expected to lead by example, be a team player with a can-do attitude, and exhibit desire to learn and take directions well, as this individual will be working with a seasonally changing menu and a dedicated kitchen team.
Position requirements:
Availabilty for full time work week
New York restaurant experience preferred but not required
Knowledge of basic Japanese cuisine strongly preferred
NYC Food Handler's Permit is required
Candidate expectations:PunctualityPays careful attention to detail
Has a sense of urgency and strong communication skills
Ability to work cleanly & efficiently at all times
Ability to take direction from BoH and FoH managers
WIllingness to execute on multiple cold and hot stations
Maintain proper food handling and food safety guidelines
