Responsibilities: 

The Safety and Facilities Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing health and safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our staff, patients, and visitors. Supports all agency locations in maintaining operating condition of building and grounds. Your duties will include:

Safety

  • Manage organization's safety program making recommendation to the Chief Human Resources Officer to protect employees and the company against harm. 
  • Maintain Injury, Illness, and Prevention Program (IIPP), including required updates
  • Support workers compensation administration and tracking 
  • Formulate and suggest work safety standards, including risk prevention areas to include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires or other unsafe conditions 
  • Coordinate with HR to create and lead safety and workplace violence prevention training
  • Conduct investigations of accidents and suggest preventive solutions 
  • Conduct safety inspections for all physical locations affiliated with Snowline Hospice 
  • Coordinate corrective actions necessary to comply with OSHA/Cal OSHA requirements 
  • Maintain approved (non-clinical) chemical agents list for Administrative Building location AND works in collaboration with the Manager of Retail Operations for identifying approved chemical agents within OSHA/Cal OSHA guidelines to be used at thrift/processing location.
  • Audits the maintenance of the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) manual for all locations
  • Collaborate with the Chief Human Resources Officer regarding safety infractions that require additional employee training, coaching or disciplinary action
  • Meet compliance and reporting requirements of federal or state regulations
  • May assist the Director of Retail Organizational Development create special safety related training

Facilities – Administrative Building(s)

  • Responsible for maintaining operating condition of building(s), ground(s), heating, cooling and ventilation systems, indoor and outdoor lighting
  • Assure security and fire alarm systems are kept in good working order 
  • Responsible for issuing building security access control to include responding to Administrative Building activated alarms in partnership with HR
  • Maintain inventory of access badges, codes and keys for administrative buildings 
  • Analyze and solve technical maintenance problems 
  • At seasonal time change, changes time on all common area clocks, makes adjustments to heating/cooling systems 
  • Perform simple repairs or oversee satisfactory completion of repairs by utilizing knowledge of fundamental mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating/cooling, and ventilation equipment skills 
  • Manage contracts for building vendor services including but not limited to electrical, heating/cool, janitorial, grounds 

Facilities – All Retail Operations Locations

  • Maintain administrative access to all retail operation locations 
  • Oversees maintenance of operating condition of building(s), grounds(s), heating, cooling and ventilation systems. 
  • Responsible for the changing of facility lights at all locations; to be accomplished by: training applicable employees, obtaining and ensuring necessary equipment (ladders), performs the changing of lights in ceilings that are higher than 12 feet 
  • Responsible for the testing and changing of smoke detector batteries at all locations semiannually; to be accomplished by training applicable employees, obtaining and ensuring access to necessary equipment (ladders)
  • May need to adjust schedule to support maintenance, at retail stores prior to or following retail showroom/donation hours 
  • Support the Retail Operations Director in researching and obtain bids for retail building repairs and maintenance 
  • Conducts hands on processing truck driving training 
  • As requested participates, in the retail budget preparation process by obtaining quotes or providing professional opinion
  • As required, may work with landlords of each location to correct and/or repair any safety issues

Miscellaneous 

  • Support maintenance of department budget 
  • Maintain current knowledge of up-to-date safety standards
  • Willingness to obtain and/or maintain a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification.
  • Collaborate with administration, infection control nurse and human resources to ensure that safety guidelines are communicated, staff is appropriately trained and appropriate retail and administration records are maintained 
  • May be asked to collaborate with Directors, Quality Assurance Coordinator and Acting Infection Control Nurse in the interpretation of OSHA/Cal OSHA requirements
  • Handle all issues and correspondence in a professional, courteous and timely manner
  • Demonstrate positive behavioral characteristics such as initiative, cooperation, adaptability, dependability and flexibility
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with a variety of belief systems, respect individual choices and lifestyles
  • Adapt quickly and react positively to business needs and changes in strategies
  • Follow safe work practices and uses good body mechanics
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in a business related field OR a similar combination of education and experience 
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices, including OSHA, CDC, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant certifications preferred. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience leading and motivating teams to achieve health and safety goals desired.
  • Experience with workers compensation administration.
  • Possession of valid California driver license, access to a reliable vehicle and minimum state required auto insurance. 
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications.
