Position Summary

Assist in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of the organization in good repair. Minor electrical work, mechanical repairs and other duties relating to maintenance are the primary duties. Participates in performance improvement and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED); or three to six (3-6) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge would include knowledge of Microsoft software, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • A working knowledge of fire alarm and signal systems.
  • Must be familiar with electrical & plumbing; add, and relocate of electric circuit, i.e. light switch, and outlets.
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Facilities Department.
  • Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
  • Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with others in a team environment, respecting and valuing the perspectives and experiences of others.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
  • Must have valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Required to travel.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).
  • Read blueprints, interprets instructions and prepares specifications.
  • Ability to do work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well independently and to inspect facilities and equipment.
  • A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.
  • Participate in performance improvement and information management activities.
  • Perform urgent corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems as required.
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.
  • Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform urgent corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems as required.
  • Assist in maintaining electrical wiring and emergency generator systems. Inspects and tests equipment/systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties to all physical structures of the facility and comply with all building safety codes. This is to include facility equipment and associated controls.
  • Assist in replacing, installing, repairing and testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances and lighting systems as required.
  • Maintain routine records of all inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system.
  • Promote a safe environment needed by a patient group.
  • Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Work at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians and staff.
  • Attend annual review and departmental in services, as scheduled.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
  • May need to work weekends, holidays and night shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
