DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Who we are:
BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is Houston’s municipal animal shelter and adoption center. BARC recently underwent a massive transformation; the shelter went from a place where animals were never given a second chance to a shelter whose mission is to get as many animals into forever homes as possible. Every single member of BARC’s staff is focused on finding a forever family for the animals that come into the shelter.
What’s the position about?
BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions customer service and licensing team assist customer daily in person, via phone and via email. In this position we seek a professional attitude in a fast-paced work environment; highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction; demonstrated passion for excellence with respect to treating and caring for customers, ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing; and capable of handling complaints and unpleasant customers. On a daily basis you will assist customer with their adoptions, their wellness services, and their pet registration.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work consists of following up and resolving all customers' requests accurately, investigating specific situations, ensuring all are resolved professionally and adequately while providing detailed transcripts in the system to track all work.
  • Educate the public on all current BARC information (Adoptions, Spay/neuter, Wellness, Registration etc.)
  • Collects, balances, and deposits daily revenue from daily transactions using shelter software in compliance with established financial accounting procedures.
  • Compiles and maintains accurate reports and data entry records of services rendered.
  • Records accounts of exchanges as well as original correspondence to customers.
  • Works on special assignments and at organized events to promote BARC and educate citizens within the community.
  • Performs other special duties and projects as assigned.
  • Uphold BARC’s dedication to legendary customer service by setting BARC apart from other local animal shelter and adoption agencies. A key part of this is developing and maintaining strong connections with fosters and rescue organizations.
  • Understand BARC’s mission and goals and ensure every customer leaves with a positive
impression of BARC.
  • Positively and proactively help solve problems for customer and balance multiple
individuals and organizations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of integrity and enforce/uphold all BARC policies.
  • Work alongside volunteers.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of standing, stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials up to 10 pounds, reaching overhead at times, swift walking, and work in indoor/outdoor weather conditions. Minor discomforts of some animal odors. The position may involve handling shelter pets.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of administrative or customer service related experiences are required. An Associate’s Degree may be substituted for the two-year experience requirement
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

PREFERENCES

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, have strong interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Experience working in an environment requiring regular animal interactions is preferred as well. Work consists of fairly standard procedures and tasks where basic analytic ability is required, as in the comparison on numbers and simple facts in selecting the correct action.

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
PAY GRADE: 15
