The Compensation Manager will play a pivotal role in our Total Rewards team, developing and implementing compensation strategies that attract, motivate, and retain top talent. This position requires a blend of strategic thinking and operational excellence, ensuring our compensation practices align with our business goals and values. By integrating REI’s values into every aspect of compensation, this position strengthens our commitment to our employees and our mission.

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of compensation strategies and structures that align with the company’s goals, culture, and values.
  • Conduct market analyses to benchmark our compensation packages and ensure our competitiveness in the industry.
  • Partner with HR and business leaders to know role requirements, providing guidance on compensation recommendations, policy interpretations, and job evaluations.
  • Manage salary planning, incentive programs, ensuring they operate within budget and comply with legal requirements.
  • Manage compensation projects, including annual salary reviews, bonus cycles, and long-term incentive awards, ensuring they are accurate and on time.
  • Advocate for and deploy equitable compensation practices, promoting equity and transparency across the organization.
  • Give training and communication to managers and employees on compensation-related topics, enhancing knowledge and appreciation of REI’s total rewards package.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • 7 years of experience in compensation program design and delivery.
  • 3 years people management experience.
  • Proven data-based skills and the ability to interpret data to make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and relational skills, with the ability to engage at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage projects with strategic speed and precision, demonstrating determination and adaptability.
  • Expertise in managing compensation programs across unique employee populations including stores, distribution centers, call centers, and unions.
  • A commitment to service and building relationships, with a leadership style that reflects openness and servant leadership practices.
