Academic Office Coordinator

Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation’s Capital is a PK-8 school in the heart of Washington, DC with two campuses, approximately 460 students, and 115 staff members. Our northern campus serves approximately 350 children grades 2-8. We are seeking a detail-oriented, flexible, empathetic, and creative thinker who enjoys working with students and adults alike to serve as an academic coordinator for our North Campus Principals. This position reports to the principal and assistant principal for grades 2-8. The position is a 12-month, non-exempt position. Hours during the school year are 7:45-4:45 (Monday) 7:45-4:00 (Tues-Thurs) 7:45-3:00 (Friday). Additional time over 40 hours is paid at an overtime rate.


The role includes the following:

  • Providing administrative support to the Grade 2-8 principals and work of the divisions
  • Supporting students and families as the need arises
  • Addressing teacher needs as they arise

More Specific Job Responsibilities


Administrative Support

  • Manage the North Campus principals’ schedules to ensure that they have time to get the work of the institution done and to ensure that their schedule has a balance of meeting/working times.
  • Proactively anticipate needs for various programs.
  • Answer parent questions, including managing, accessing, and providing answers and materials for parent requests regarding upcoming programs, standardized test score explanations, academic calendar, student schedules, etc.
  • Support teachers in answering questions or help direct them to the appropriate person
  • Manage some student behavior accountability measures, which could include supervising a student who is in-school suspension or taking a time out of class.
  • Support with beginning and end of school year tasks to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

School Needs

  • Support the organization and implementation of all-school, all division activities, or grade-wide assemblies, field trips, etc. as needed through collaboration with the special events coordinator, principals, and grade-level leads.
  • Serve as a resource to teachers as requested by the principals.

Testing

  • Support principal in sharing out and responding to questions about MAP testing
  • Access different types of reports from MAP/NWEA
  • Coordinate that testing schedule is arranged and communicated with teachers
  • With learning specialists, help students complete testing by proctoring beyond time devoted to testing in class

Class changes and schedule changes

  • Manage class change requests for Chugim and language electives.
  • Work closely with the school’s data manager on issues related to the Blackbaud student information system including attendance reporting, grading, scheduling, report cards, enrolling students in classes, etc.
  • Print a daily schedule for each Middle School student at the start of the school year and as needed thereafter and be a liaison with the schedule coordinator to alert any errors or changes and things arise.

Support Students and Families

  • Respond to student needs as they arise.
  • Respond to family emails and phone calls and direct them to the appropriate person.
  • Track absences and attendance and communicate extended absences to the Principal and Student Support Team as required to ensure that families are getting the support they may need while they are out.
  • Supervise at least one lunch and recess period a week.

A flexible and can-do attitude is a must. This is a new role which may evolve; as a growing school, we pitch in where and when needed, whether to take on new tasks or to support a temporary need.Ideal qualifications:

  • Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google platforms
  • Must be a people person and enjoy working with children ages 7-14
  • Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to step in as needed to resolve problems or support colleagues
  • Prior experience working with Blackbaud or other SIS platforms a plus
Salary Range: $48,000-$55,000
