Summary/Objective

The Office of Public Interest (OPI) Coordinator provides assistance to the Director and handles general office administrative duties, answering both staff and students’ inquires, answering phone and email inquiries, ordering office supplies, booking rooms and ordering catering for various events, and provided support to the Director of OPI and other members of the team as needed. The incumbent will be the liason with internal and external constituents regarding public interest/service opportunities.

The incumbent will help with the planning and implementation events, including the events related to the Public Interest/ Public Service (PIPS) Scholarship program and the WCL Equal Justice Foundation (EJF). Provides administrative and logistical support for the annual In My Back Yard Day of Service, the Peter M. Cicchino Award Ceremony, the MLK Day of Service; and the EJF Auction.

Essential Functions

  • Day-to Day Operation: Coordinate the daily administrative activities of the program, including but not limited to calendar management, room reservations, travel arrangements, budgeting assistance, and document preparation. Manage and maintain the Program website and general email inbox.
  • Communication/Marketing: Assist with marketing and communications, including developing and distributing promotional materials and maintaining the Program’s social media accounts. Serve as a direct liaison with internal and external constituents, including PIPS scholars, faculty advisors, law students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community members.
  • Event/Program Planning: Assist in planning and coordinating in-person and virtual programs and events. Assist in evaluating and reporting program impact and success.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Support other administrative functions in the program as needed and/or directed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Full Time, 35 hours/week.
  • Coordinator/Analyst B.
  • Non-Exempt.

Salary Range

  • $55,000.00 - $60,000.00/year; to commensurate with experience.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of previous experience working in non-profit, public interest/service, higher education, or legal environment.
  • More than 2 years of experience in program coordination or student program administration.
  • Experience with marketing communications, including online marketing and social media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience and knowledge of analytical reporting practices.

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local 500. That means the terms and conditions of your employment are governed by university policy (including the Staff Personnel Policies Manual) and any collective bargaining agreement entered into between American University and SEIU Local 500.
