Keller Postman is Hiring a Litigation Paralegal Near Washington, DC

Keller Postman seeks to add a Litigation Paralegal to our team to assist with due diligence document review and document organization; assisting with file management; assisting with all aspects of discovery; preparing witness files and binders for trial; assisting with managing databases and monitoring deadlines. As well as other paralegal duties. 

This position is hybrid, with three days in our DC office, and two days remote. 

Other Core Functions:

  • Work with specific case teams to administratively manage all phases of the litigation, including but not limited to the preparation of pleadings, motion briefing, discovery requests and responses, pre-trial and trial papers, and appellate briefs and appendices.
  • Assist attorneys and senior paralegals with various case-related tasks, including but not limited to fact gathering and investigation, document review and cataloging evidence, preparing legal documents and evidence for filing with courts and for use at witness depositions, motion hearings, and trials.
  • Electronically file legal documents in federal and state courts using PACER CM/ECF, Odyssey, and other systems.
  • Conduct factual and legal research, as necessary, using Westlaw, Hein Online, and other litigation support resources.
  • Perform daily file maintenance responsibilities in compliance with the firm’s policies, such as creating, organizing, and updating the firm's document management system with all scanned paper and electronic files.
  • Work with Litigation Assistants on organizing case materials and preparing related binders with customized tabs, exhibits, and tables of contents for court hearings.
  • Provide guidance on the categorization and organization of case materials, including the formulation and implementation of standard naming conventions and case-specific checklists.
  • Proofread, revise, and finalize a wide variety of legal documents accurately and in preparation for filing with courts and serving same on adverse parties to the litigation. 
  • Coordinate with other departments within the firm to develop efficient procedures and communications to streamline processes.
  • Coordinate with litigation support vendors on specialized projects, as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with the Legal Support Team on various miscellaneous projects. 
  • Attend case-related and Legal Support Team meetings and training seminars.
  • Ad hoc assignments delegated by the Legal Support Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to function well under pressure and in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and proactive problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate with others effectively, listen closely, and convey points clearly.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • A creative mind with the ability to suggest improvements, and conduct cost-benefit analyses when identifying and solving problems.

Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive, and SharePoint), with the ability to learn new or updated software.
  • Proficiency in e-discovery platforms, such as Relativity, CS Disco, Everlaw, and OpenText.
  • Proficiency in case management platforms, such as Filevine, Litify, Opus 2, and Case Notebook.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • A Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal training program or a valid Paralegal Certification from NALA, NFPA, or a state-recognized paralegal association (e.g., ILAP)

Individuals graduating in 2024 with their paralegal certificate are encouraged to apply. 

Experience:

  • 0-5 years of related legal work experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or government office
  • Mass tort or product liability experience a plus
