Keller Postman is Hiring a Senior Trial Paralegal Near Washington, DC

Keller Postman seeks to add an established Litigation Paralegal to our team with advanced knowledge and a solid understanding of practice area processes, procedures, rules, and regulations. The ability to perform work that requires significant independent judgment and discretion, coordinating and delegating activities among members of case-related legal support team. This person will have the ability to handle complex work at a high level of competence; mentor and train paraprofessionals including Litigation Assistants and Litigation Interns; providing guidance and becoming a resource to new associates or other newly hired attorneys.

This is a hybrid position, with three days in office at our DC location, and two days remote. 

Other Core Functions:

  • Coordinate and assign tasks to junior and mid-level paralegals, and litigation assistants for a specific case team.
  • Assist the Legal Support Manager with training junior and mid-level Paralegals, and Litigation Assistants and mentoring them to help strengthen their technical skills and core competencies.
  • Work with specific case teams to administratively manage all phases of the litigation, including but not limited to the preparation of pleadings, motion briefing, discovery requests and responses, pre-trial and trial papers, and appellate briefs and appendices.
  • Assist attorneys and senior paralegals with various case-related tasks, including but not limited to fact gathering and investigation, document review and cataloging evidence, preparing legal documents and evidence for filing with courts and for use at witness depositions, motion hearings, and trials.
  • Electronically file legal documents in federal and state courts using PACER CM/ECF, Odyssey, and other systems.
  • Conduct factual and legal research, as necessary, using Westlaw, Hein Online, and other litigation support resources.
  • Perform daily file maintenance responsibilities in compliance with the firm’s policies, such as creating, organizing, and updating the firm's document management system with all scanned paper and electronic files.
  • Work with Litigation Assistants and/or Interns on organizing case materials and preparing related binders with customized tabs, exhibits, and tables of contents for court hearings.
  • Provide guidance on the categorization and organization of case materials, including the formulation and implementation of standard naming conventions and case-specific checklists.
  • Cite-check legal documents, ensuring all cited evidence and legal authorities conform to The Bluebook® standards, ensuring all legal authorities are still “good law,” and verifying all quoted material is accurate.
  • Proofread, revise, and finalize a wide variety of legal documents accurately and in preparation for filing with courts and serving same on adverse parties to the litigation. 
  • Coordinate with other departments within the firm to develop efficient procedures and communications to streamline processes.
  • Coordinate with litigation support vendors on specialized projects, as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with the Legal Support Team on various miscellaneous projects. 
  • Attend case-related and Legal Support Team meetings and training seminars.
  • Ad hoc assignments delegated by the Legal Support Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive, and SharePoint), with the ability to learn new or updated software.
  • Proficiency in e-discovery platforms, such as Relativity, CS Disco, Everlaw, and OpenText.
  • Proficiency in case management platforms, such as Filevine, Litify, Opus 2, and Case Notebook.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal training program or a valid Paralegal Certification from NALA, NFPA, or a state-recognized paralegal association (e.g., ILAP).

Experience:

  • 16 years of related legal work experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or government office.
  • Experience mentoring and training entry-level and junior-level legal support staff.
  • A minimum of 5 years of trial and/or mass tort litigation experience is a plus
