Job Title: Human Resource Manager

Summary Manages and administers human resource activities, such as benefits, policies, training, performance management, and employee services. Maintains a human resources system that meets top management information needs. Advises and assists management and employees on employee issues and concerns through communicating, interpreting, and recommending appropriate use of human resource policies, procedures, and services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Compiles and maintains employee personnel files and employee benefit files to document personnel actions, provide information for payroll and answer inquiries to authorized persons for use in employee benefits administration and other uses.
Interprets company policies and responds to policy, procedure, and program inquiries. Advise and assist management and employees by responding to inquiries, concerns, and employee issues and by interpreting applicable human resource policies and procedures.
Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations with the assistance of outside legal counsel as necessary and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance with federal, state, and local law.
Plans and conducts new employee orientation and onboarding to foster a positive attitude toward company goals.
Coordinates employee training on topics such as sexual harassment, blood-borne pathogens, ethics, etc.
Administers and maintains a human resource evaluation database and information system.
Completes and evaluates background screening on applicants.
Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental, and disability insurances; vacation, personal time, sick leave, and leave of absence; provides services to employees to answer their benefit questions, resolve problems related to access to or payment of benefits; orient newly eligible employees, and process enrollment forms and changes.
Prepares materials and presents information to employees about benefit programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures.
Submits enrollment/disenrollment information and changes to benefit plan providers.
Prepares accident and injury reports for workers’ compensation insurance carriers.
Reviews unemployment claims and works with 3rd party unemployment administrators to resolve claims.
Reviews reports from plan providers to verify accuracy and resolve differences.
Assists payroll with recording changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance, and direct deposits for each employee to update master payroll records; records new or changed pay rates in computerized master payroll records.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree and one or three years related experience and/or training. Length of experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred (or equivalent).
Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of payroll and human resources software; Excel; Outlook; and Word. Knowledge of and experience with Paylocity software is desirable.
Professional Licenses, Certificates, Registrations Valid Michigan Driver’s License, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred
Other Qualifications Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to complete the requirements of the position.
