FLSA: Non-Exempt, Full Time
Department: Administration
Primary Worksite: 6 West Colony Place, Durham, NC
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The Human Resources Coordinator facilitates all human resource processes with employees, management and external partners. This role administers employee health and welfare plans, resolves benefits-related problems, manages the payroll process, coordinates recruiting and onboarding activities and enables positive employee relations while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. This role provides administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer and other office manager duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions
  • Processes payroll accurately and in a timely manner, resolving issues with managers and employees as needed
  • Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations
  • Guides the performance review process
  • Assists in the preparation of salary increases and bonus communications
  • Shepherds the recruitment process with candidates from first contact through offer acceptance
  • Coordinates recruitment effort for exempt and non-exempt personnel; includes managing advertisements and position postings for internal and external when needed
  • Ensures onboarding process is defined and executed with excellence
  • Enables positive employee relations as a liaison between employees and management
  • Facilitates training as needed
  • Maintains and updates all job descriptions
  • Reviews all applications, checks references and criminal background reports
  • Verifies I-9 documentation
  • Assists with the scheduling of meetings and interviews
  • Conducts orientation training for new employees
  • Ensures all federal and state regulations are met concerning hiring and staffing
  • Develops and prepares appropriate staffing reports
  • Assists with coordinating company events as requested
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring human resource federal and state requirements
  • Maintains the electronic filing and retrieval system of current and past human resources records
  • Provides administrative support as needed to the Chief Executive Officer (15 percent of time)
  • Provides office manager support including receptionist duties (15 percent of time)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience
  • At least two years of related experience required
  • SHRM-CP credential or Associate in Human Resources (aPHR) preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position requires frequent typing/keyboarding (50-60% of time) and constant sitting (60-
  • 75% of time).
  • Occasional lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, bending/squatting and standing/walking as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in human resources or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a human resources internship or support role
  • Knowledge of human resources operations and principles, benefits and payroll administration, performance management, communication processes, and recruiting and onboarding
  • Excellent writing, analytical and problem‐solving skills
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, and experience with standard business software, including MS Word, Excel and Visio; strong PowerPoint skills are a plus
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced office setting
  • Ability to share skills and knowledge with others
  • Familiarity with Paycor and ADP payroll systems
  • Familiarity with 401(k) retirement plans
  • Familiarity with the recreational scuba diving industry or other adventure sports (not required)
  • Certified scuba diver (not required)
