Position Overview:

The hospitality industry is changing, and we are excited to be an early adapter to this evolution. This key leadership position is critical in spearheading the cultural shift in our industry by being open-minded, dynamic, and innovative. In partnership with the General Manager, the Human Resources Director will lead our award-winning hotel in a bustling neighborhood of champions to attract and retain the city’s top talent and to propel the industry by providing a modernized workplace. While supported by both the General Manager and corporate office, this position works independently to achieve the property’s Human Resources goals and has autonomy to make change as they see fit. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, be a catalyst for change, an employee champion, and will excel at creating an environment of trust and openness for all.

With a modern, sophisticated custom design drawing guests seeking an upscale experience in Boston’s bustling TD Garden area, the Courtyard at North Station is a Courtyard by Marriott unlike any other. With accolades extending far beyond service, hospitality and performance, this unique property located steps from the TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics, provides an exceptional opportunity for hoteliers looking to service guests across segments including sports and entertainment, corporate and leisure travel and beyond. Maintaining a top 10 spot on TripAdvisor and exceptional guest satisfaction scores within the brand, quality and operational expertise are cornerstones to the success of this exceptional hotel.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and team members with an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner
  • Communicate policies, information and directives to all associates and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures
  • Recruit, onboard welcome new hires to the hotel, and conduct regular new hire orientation, ensuring a smooth onboarding process
  • Ensure hiring standards and all applicable laws and regulations are followed
  • Recommend and approve all associate transitions, inclusive of new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations, etc.
  • Oversee annual performance review process and Team Member Engagement survey, ensuring 100% participation throughout the hotel
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports for owners and participate in ownership level meetings as required
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee files
  • Monitor staffing and labor structures to manage payroll costs
  • Conduct compensation analysis to maintain up-to-date knowledge on compensation in the market, ensuring the hotel remains competitive in all offerings
  • Mitigate financial risks related to employee relations issues by ensuring compliance with federal and local employment laws and company procedures and policies
  • Work in tandem with department heads to conduct ongoing training and develop initiatives to inspire and motivate team members to provide guests with an exceptional experience
  • Research and investigate workplace issues, gathering all relevant information and facilitating resolution
  • Manage labor relations and represent the hotel in grievances, mediations and arbitrations as needed
  • Manage HR budget, ensuring funds are distributed evenly amongst departments and initiatives are relevant
  • Conduct ongoing succession planning, ensuring new leaders are receiving consistent training and coaching

Qualifications


Qualifications, Job Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous Human Resources Leadership experience in a hospitality setting required
  • Knowledge of local union contract and best practices
  • College degree in a related discipline preferred
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Highly organized and strong multi-tasking ability

Physical requirements of the position and work environment:

  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch
  • Must use hands to reach, grasp, handle, pull and push
  • Must have good near and far vision
  • Must be able to hear, talk, smell
  • Must be able to lift & carry up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for up to 5 hours and a total of 7 hours in an 8 hour shift
  • Duties may be performed indoors or outdoors in a moderate noise level
