Central Indiana Corporate Partnership is Hiring an Ascend - Director of Development Near Indianapolis, IN

Ascend Indiana (Ascend) is a fast-growing nonprofit on a mission to address Indiana’s workforce misalignment. Ascend’s vision is for Indiana to be a place of economic opportunity for all. An initiative of Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), Ascend collaborates with corporate, education, philanthropic, and community partners, and is well-positioned to play a leadership role in addressing Indiana’s workforce challenges.
The Director of Development leads the development and implementation of Ascend’s fundraising strategy and operations to advance the organization’s vision, mission, and priorities alongside the Vice President of Operations & Chief of Staff and President & CEO. The primary development responsibilities include generating and executing a fundraising strategic plan, developing and maintaining relationships with funders, and creating grant applications and reports. In addition, the Director stewards grant funding through budgeting, contracting, and spending aligned to associated activities. The Director also supports engagement with Ascend’s Board of Directors. Finally, the Director of Development will support the Vice President of Operations & Chief of Staff and Ascend Leadership Team on high priority projects and research as assigned.
To be successful in this role you must be…
Excited by the opportunity to drive, manage, and monitor development efforts for Ascend’s various workstreams.
  • You manage the development of the organization’s strategic plan to set the long-term vision, mission, priorities, and goals alongside the Vice President of Operations & Chief of Staff.
  • You lead the development and execution of a fundraising strategic plan that aligns to the organization’s strategic vision and associated revenue model.
  • You identify potential sources of funding that align with Ascend’s vision, mission, and strategies.
  • You work with the Vice President and the President & CEO to pursue new funding sources as the organization scales, including philanthropy, government agencies, and corporations.
  • You develop and enable new relationships with national, regional, and local funders alongside the Vice President and President & CEO.
  • You maintain ongoing relationships with major donors, including leading the preparation of meeting materials, alongside the Vice President and President & CEO.
  • You develop, refine, and maintain grant applications, required reports, and other fundraising materials alongside CICP’s Shared Services team.
  • You support the Vice President and the President & CEO in managing the organization’s current Board of Directors and associated committees, identifying new members, and developing the associated meeting materials.
  • You maintain a database of key corporate and philanthropic funders in Ascend’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform, Microsoft Dynamics.
Adept at setting and managing an annual budget to effectively steward funding and achieve Ascend’s vision and mission.
  • You develop and manage Ascend’s annual budget in conjunction with Ascend’s Leadership Team and CICP’s Shared Services team.
  • You manage the strategic spending of grant funds against the budget to ensure effective stewardship of resources across Ascend’s activities and funding sources.
  • You manage the development, execution, and payment of contracts and invoices alongside CICP’s Shared Services team and Ascend’s Human Assets team in alignment with grant agreements.
  • You coordinate compiling relevant documentation to ensure Single Audit compliance related to Ascend’s federal grant awards alongside CICP’s Shared Services team.
  • You document relevant knowledge, materials, and communications with funding partners to ensure continuity of relationships and institutional knowledge.

  • You serve on Ascend’s Management Team, providing thought leadership and input on the organization’s strategic direction and ensuring progress against goals.
  • You liaise with CICP’s Vice President of Administration & Finance and Director of Financial Strategy & Compliance to ensure understanding of, and compliance with, finance and development best practices and organizational processes.
  • You are organized and outcomes focused, tracking your progress daily and reacting quickly if you are not on track to accomplishing your goals.
  • You break down goals and develop weekly, quarterly, and yearly plans to achieve organizational objectives.
  • You manage and report against goals, priorities, and objectives to the Vice President.
Requirements
  • Degree from either an undergraduate or graduate institution.
  • 4-6 years of applicable education, business, non-profit, and/or government experience preferred.
  • Experience in development, finance, and/or communications preferred.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in leading projects and achieving ambitious, quantifiable outcomes.
  • A detail-oriented self-starter who can be given a need or objective, break it down into executable activities, identify questions that need to be asked, gather priorities and requirements, set and manage to milestones, and then execute effectively.
  • Ability to learn new technology tools and processes quickly. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite preferred.
  • Track record of successfully working collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential information.

  • Office location: 16 Tech, downtown Indianapolis with hybrid work (in office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays)
  • Work week: 40 hours/week
  • Travel: Statewide, 10%
