Job description

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Sr. Director Human Resources is responsible for strategic planning, directing, and managing all human resources (HR) functions. This includes organizational development, recruitment and talent acquisition, retention, employee relations, compliance, training and development, employee benefits and compensation, workers compensation and leave administration, performance management, and the HR budget.

The Sr. Director Human Resources ensures the values and beliefs of St. John’s Community Health are reflected throughout the organization by developing strategies to engage staff throughout SJCH including refining the culture of the organization to ensure employees have a sense of belonging to the organization and are committed to its work.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, related field, or SPHR/SHRM-SCP Certification.
  • 5 years’ direct management of all HR functions.
  • 2 years’ experience in HR management with a healthcare organization.
  • 2 years’ experience in HR management in a union environment.
  • Employee relations experience including investigations, wage and hour issues, and responding to claims.
  • Strong leadership qualities and able to model positive leadership for both the department and the overall organization.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, and coach others on these skills in a fast-paced fluid work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High level knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and compliance.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, experience with HRIS systems.

Responsibilities :

Manage HR functions, policies, programs, procedures, processes, records, data, and budget. Create and implement an HR business plan on an annual basis; monitor and report on progress quarterly. Manage HR initiatives with senior leadership for implementation using a collaborative process.

Manage department employees: coach, train, and monitor their work; provide feedback to increase knowledge, productivity, skills, and abilities.

Leadership

  • Provide counsel and guidance to organizational leadership and managers, and serve as a mentor and coach.
  • Support new initiatives and make an impact on operational and technology programs.

Talent Management

  • Provide oversight of performance management including coaching and counseling, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Supervise talent management, retention processes, ensure job descriptions are accurate and up to date.
  • Conduct organizational surveys, employee surveys, salary surveys, and compensations studies.

Talent Acquisition

  • Supervise recruitment functions and work strategically with the Director of Recruiting to increase quality, lower turnover and “time to fill”, and improve retention.
