Description / Position Overview
SEASONAL - Pikes Peak Highway Ranger
In this position, you will assist with the daily operations of the PPHWY (Pikes Peak Highway).
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).
This is a 6-month limited position. Anticipated dates of employment being between April and October with a day or afternoon work schedule, including at least one weekend day per week. The schedule will vary weekly and require working at least 24 hours per week. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Collect tolls from visitors
  • Act as Courtesy Patrol for the Pikes Peak Highway (PPHWY)
  • Perform traffic control
  • Respond to requests for assistance from visitors and staff
  • Greet visitors; answer questions
  • Clean and maintain restrooms and facilities
  • Pick up trash along the PPHWY
  • Host "Meet the Ranger" interpretive talks
  • Support special events or activities
  • Monitor weather and road conditions
  • Respond to emergency situations occurring along the highway, at the Gateway and at the Summit, and coordinate with responding agencies
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures
  • Ability to accurately count money
  • Ability to communicate professionally at all times with diverse customers
  • Excellent customer service skills
Successful candidates will have

  • One year of experience in a customer service environment
  • Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Ideal candidates will also have

  • Cash handling experience
  • Interpretive experience
Additional Information
The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position , area of assignment, and specific job assignments . This includes shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
This position is located in Cascade, CO. Employees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workplace.
Regular attendance is essential to the performance of this job.
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to sit, stand, run, or walk for prolonged periods; stoop and bend frequently; and lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Environmental Conditions
Primary Work Environment - Outdoors at high altitude (14,115 feet) in extreme weather conditions
