SEASONAL - Director for Elementary Program (PT Recreation & Camp Support)
In this position, you will perform program and supervisory duties for a variety of out-of-school time youth programs offered through Meadows Park, Hillside, and Deerfield Hills Community Centers This includes a seasonal, outdoor summer camp experience for youth entering grades K through 8 in accordance with the Recreation Services Program Standards and Colorado State Licensing. As the Assistant Director, you will also serve as an excellent role model for staff, participants, and volunteers and represent the division in a positive manner. 
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). 
Anticipated dates of employment will be from May 22 through August 4, 2023. The schedule for this position will be Monday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm.Additional hours may be scheduled as needs arise. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
Essential Job Functions- the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Plan, prepare and implement activities such as art, music, sports, games, and field trips for youth and teens
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities for youth modeling both the Recreation Services Program Standards and State of Colorado Childcare Licensing Guidelines
  • Provide oversight of daily administrative functions
  • Monitor, supervise, and actively lead children in the program area
  • Provide a healthy, clean, and safe environment; ensure that all facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained
  • Act as lead supervisor of a team of three to ten program leaders
  • Develop and lead constructive staff meetings and productive staff training; attend all required trainings, and complete required certifications
  • Assess the needs and interests of customers
  • Provide necessary first aid; complete required paperwork efficiently and according to professional standards
  • Demonstrate support for administrative decisions
  • Attend all trainings and complete any related State Licensing certifications 
  • Attend required special events when necessary as a representative of the Youth Programs
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Possess high school diploma or GED 
  • Director Qualified in the State of Colorado for School-Aged Child Care Centers:
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; or 
    • Two years of college training and six months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of four or more children; or 
    • Three years (5460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience (Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of 4 to 18 years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of 18) and one of the following qualifications:
      • Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; or 
      • 40 hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department-approved courses in injury prevention and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment
        • Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of four (4)-eighteen (18) years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of eighteen (18).
  • Experience working in a licensed school-age childcare environment
  • Possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, First Aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certifications
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. 
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
 
This position requires the ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds frequently.
