Job Duties

The Department of Labor and Industry’s Richmond Headquarters Office is seeking a highly motivated professional to work as a full-time Financial Services Specialist who provides administrative and resource oversight for the Agency to ensure full compliance with all applicable state and federal rules and regulations, laws, and executive orders. This position reports to the Administrative and Financial Services Division and performs revenue/deposit functions ensuring that receipts are accurately recorded and deposited in a timely manner. In addition, this position also performs Accounts Receivable and General Services functions for the Administrative and Financial Services Division. Ongoing attention to the development and maintenance of adequate internal controls is required during the performance of all related job functions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in a governmental financial accounting environment servicing a variety of fiscal needs.
• Experience with interpreting/applying policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Experience with automated spreadsheets (Excel), and word processing software.
• Experience with automated financial systems.
• Ability to manage multiple functions.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

• Knowledge of and/or experience with Commonwealth of Virginia revenue/deposit processes.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with accounts receivable processes.
• Certification (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience) in the area of Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.

Special Requirements include:
• Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hiring or within 30 days of hiring. Position is subject to annual driver’s license record check.
• Ability to travel overnight occasionally.
• Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not limited to climbing stairs and ladders, bending, walking up and down inclines, occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds, etc.
• The selected candidate must pass a criminal background investigation, and successfully serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment if beginning employment as an original hire or re-employment.
Special Instructions:
The maximum hiring salary range for the Financial Services Specialist is $48,000 - $58,000 annually, plus the State’s benefits package. Please note that salary is only negotiable within the advertised salary range.
