Project Manager - Marketing (Volunteer)

About Us:

WhoWhatWhy is seeking a passionate, high-energy individual who is excited about creating and implementing HR programs, structures, and processes. As a startup, we are looking for people who would bring structure and scale to the complex growth challenges of a nonprofit organization by rolling up their sleeves to get stuff done! In addition to doing groundbreaking work, this role will be pivotal in establishing a culture of openness, positive communication, and continuous learning. 

Our organization is a nonprofit that is not funded by a zillionaire. We do not accept corporate ads. As such, we are only currently able to pay a small core team, as well as experienced professional freelancers, relying primarily on skilled volunteers to fill out our growing organizational infrastructure. 

Age does not matter. We have among us young students, vibrant retirees, and everything in between, from all walks of life.

Note: Must be able to attend bi-weekly meetings, Fridays at 1:00 PM EST

Responsibilities:

• Manage large-scale projects from conception to completion.
• Analyze all aspects of projects, identify stakeholders, and delegate tasks to team members.
• Actively track and report on the status of all projects.
• Ensure all documentation of project processes is being prepared and filed accordingly by the project team.
• Develop and implement project management templates, processes, and best practices using project management methodologies.
• Assist in the recruitment and selection of prospective team members.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify more efficient workflows.
• Attend department meetings, lead as needed.
• Update the project plan and publish/share regularly, including minutes.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5 years of experience in tracking and managing multiple projects.
• Ability to take the lead, identify project tasks, set priorities, assign and monitor work.
• Self-starter with the ability to problem solve proactively.
• Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously and to work autonomously.
• Have a solid grasp of — and commitment to — our mission and vision.
• Experience using and navigating various social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, etc)
• Experience using and navigating various media platforms. (YouTube, Wikipedia, Blogs, Podcasts, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
• PMP or project management certification.
• Experience in the media industry / startup / nonprofits preferred.
• Demonstrate a collaborative spirit and ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.

Expectations:

As a member of our team, you will collaborate closely with leaders and managers within the Marketing Department. We ask all team members to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week and to maintain high responsiveness through Slack, email, and conference calls. Additionally, we would expect a long-term commitment from our volunteers to ensure continuity and meaningful contributions to our mission.

Attendance at our bi-weekly department meetings on Fridays at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time is mandatory.
