Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Washington, D.C. office is seeking an entry-level Planner to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of plans, projects, programs, and/or strategies within a variety of areas (e.g.,sustainability, climate adaptation, recycling, renewable energy, resource conservation).
  • Assists in the preparation of planning documents and applications. Researches and interprets comprehensive policy plans, zoning and land use regulations, demographics, statistical data, and related community information. Prepares written technical planning documents, applications, and justification statements in conformance with codes, plans, and regulations. Summarizes information collected by others and assembles reports.
  • Assists in researching, analyzing, and determining potential impact of proposed legislation or policy issues. Gathers, compiles, and analyzes data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use and evaluates the data for forecasting.
  • Conducts surveys, field evaluations, planning studies to include feasibility studies, and assessments.
  • Assists in developing generalized studies in support of new and updated plans, programs, and regulations.
  • Assists with coordination of project resources and sub-consultants. Interacts with numerous team members, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner.
  • Assists designers with the preparation of master plans and site-specific designs. Prepares graphics, maps, and diagrams to support planning projects. Prepares presentation materials for meetings.
  • Attends meetings with local authorities, civic leaders, social scientists, and land planning and development specialists for the purpose of devising and recommending arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, and community uses.
  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company policies and procedures.

  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of project teams

Qualifications

  • 0-1 year of planning experience, whether through coursework or professional experience
  • BA in Planning or related area of study relevant to specialization (e.g., Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Urban Design/Studies, Regional Planning, Sustainability Planning, Economics, Aviation, Civil Engineering, Urban Transportation Planning)

This position requires COVID-19 vaccination per client requirements.
