Position Overview
Job Description
The student assistant position performs general office related tasks in the Fiscal Affairs Contracts unit in the Office of Research. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide administrative support to permanent staff by performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties, including maintaining filing systems, creating files, retrieving records, preparing documents for review.
Prioritize and manage time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
Perform data entry duties, including checking data accuracy and performing data audits.
Communicate with clients regularly on current status of contracts.
Create, maintain, and organize files for each contract.
Monitor shared mailbox and promptly replies to clients.
Provide assistance on special projects and tasks using spreadsheets, databases and other computer-based applications.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Previous work experience requiring strong attention to detail and accuracy as evidenced by application materials.
Proficiency with computer applications, specifically Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, as evidenced by application materials.
Student status, minimum 6 credit hours KU enrollment.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous work experience in a business office, including use of filing systems.
Strong customer service skills.
Good organizational and time management skills.
High level of reading comprehension.
Good verbal communication skills.
Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.
Typing, data entry and retrieval experience; intermediate skill level with Adobe, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Availability to work between 10-20 hours per week during the academic year and summer, with at least 2-hour time blocks.
Available to work for at least a year.

Work Schedule
10-20 hours per week during the academic year and summer, with at least 2 hour time blocks, primarily between hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After training period, a portion of weekly hours will be flexible.
