Position Overview
The honors student assistant works with program staff and faculty to ensure the smooth delivery of program services. They provide office support and contribute to administrative tasks to support building needs and to connect students to resources and information. The student assistant also serves as part of the team that welcomes prospective students and their families as they visit Nunemaker Center. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for the academic experience at KU and in the Honors Program.
Job Description
Assist with general office work, including the following:
Front-desk reception, greeting guests, responding to questions, and building opening and closing procedures
Responding to calls, emails
Facilitating print mailings
Assisting with classroom technology
Copying and filing
Maintaining a clean and professional office space
Assisting with events and programs, including the following:
Welcoming prospective students and their families to Nunemaker Center
Providing building tours
Answering questions about KU and the Honors Program
Assisting with space set up and materials for co-curricular programs, as well as supporting with program outreach efforts, encouraging student participation, and assisting with post-program needs.
Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and campus involvement addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from references:
Student must be a member of the University Honors Program as stated in application materials.
Student must have strong oral and written communication skills as demonstrated in application materials and interview.
Student must have excellent attention to detail as demonstrated in application materials and work experience.
Student should have some late afternoon, evening, and weekend availability.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledgeable about Honors Program requirements and benefits
Familiarity with office procedures.
Eligible for Federal Work Study.
Customer service experience.
