Job DescriptionDEPARTMENT: Residential Services  POSITION TITLE: Development Manager FLSA: Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Chief Executive Officer Job Code: NASALARY RANGE: $84,000 to $87,000
OVERVIEW:The Development Manager is responsible for raising funds to support the Unity Care’s mission and programs. Their primary role is to assist in the planning, execution, and management of fundraising activities. The Development team play a vital role in the sustainability and growth of nonprofit organizations. They help secure the necessary resources to support the organization's programs and initiatives, ultimately contributing to its mission and impact. DIRECT REPORTS:Development Coordinator QUALIFICATIONS: Required
  1. B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university and 3 years’ experience in a development office environment, non-profit setting, or volunteer program management or an equivalent combination of experience.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate work with varied constituencies including volunteers, program staff, clients and donors required.
  3. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of volunteer and community relations for Unity Care.
  4. Experience in all aspects of philanthropic fund development.
  5. Extensive experience and increasing responsibility in fundraising, with demonstrated success in prospecting, cultivating, asking and closing corporate, foundation, workplace, individual, major gifts and new business revenue
  6. Strong demonstrated experience with PCs and Microsoft Office suite.
  7. Excellent organization and planning abilities, and to prioritize work and multi-task.
  8. Works well under pressure in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  9. Excellent, well-rounded written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Ability to work independently and collaboratively demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.
  11. Ability to exercise judgement and maintain confidentiality.
  12. Exceptional interpersonal skills to deal with diverse volunteer experience using tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
  13. Strong organizational skills and relentless attention to detail.
  14. Outstanding project management skills.
Preferred
  1. Working knowledge of Salesforce software systems
As with all UC staff, this position is responsible for adhering to the performance standards set forth in the UC Staff Employee and UC policies and procedures.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to): 
  1. Work with the Director to establish a diversified development program to maximize support to meet the needs of the operating budget, endowment, and capital needs.
  2. Manage project workflow and oversee day to day milestones for fundraising projects.
  3. Build and maintain relationships with donors, corporate partners, sponsors, and supporters of the organization. This involves coordinating all communications with donors, acknowledging their contributions, and keeping them updated on the organization's activities and impact, as well as other activities as determined by management.
  4. Maintain Bloomerang donor database including gift entry, ensuring that all donor information is accurate, all gifts are acknowledged with a letter in a timely manner, and reconciling with Finance each month. Generating reports and giving trends as well as other needs as determined by management.
  5. Plan, organize, and execute fundraising campaigns and events, such as annual appeals, auctions, galas, crowdfunding efforts and etc. These campaigns may target individual donors, corporate partners, or grant-making foundations.
  6. Collaborate with contract grant writer to ensure that the cadence of outbound grant applications is maintained. This may involve some research, coordinating financial and other documents that accompany grant requests, and monitoring grant calendar for reports and other deliverables.
  7. Prepare monthly financial reports and fundraising progress updates for the organization's leadership and board of directors. These reports provide insights into the effectiveness of fundraising strategies.
  8.  Coordinate with other staff to manage fundraising events, including logistics, volunteer recruitment, and promotion. Ensure that events run smoothly and meet their fundraising objectives and partnership goals.
  9. Coordinate the production and distribution of materials and messages that promote fundraising efforts and engage community. This will require exceptional writing skills, use of email marketing tools, and interfacing with vendors to design, print, and mail materials.
  10. Implement donor stewardship practices according to annual Development Plan to ensure that donors feel appreciated and engaged with the organization. This may involve sending thank-you notes, organizing donor recognition events, and providing updates on the impact of their contributions.
  11. Ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising regulations and ethical standards, such as tax laws and donor privacy laws.
  12. Stay informed about fundraising trends, best practices, and potential funding sources to continuously improve the organization's fundraising efforts.
  13. Ensure that project plans and schedules are followed, keeping close tabs on deliverable progress, flagging blockers as needed, and keeping the “trains running on time.”
  14. Maintain project plans in database and ensure all deliverables are assigned an owner and on track for timely completion, connect with project team members when needed in order to keep plans moving along, leading and calendaring strategic plan team meetings, prepare project overviews and provide updates to management on a quarterly basis on performance and progress.
Organization Duties:
    1. Timely and accurate submission of timecards to supervisor
    2. Time away from the Office, Program and/or Home (i.e. vacations, personal time off, leaves of absence) must be pre-approved by supervisor and requested based on process outlined in the UC Employee Handbook.
    3. Maintain knowledge of staff handbook, policies, procedures, manuals, and pertinent documentation
    4. Other duties as assigned.

  7. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  8. Employee may be required to make or receive physical contact with clients and residents, such as in the process of delivering First Aid/CPR or de-escalation interventions.
  9. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  10. Must have CPR and First Aid certificate within 10 days of start date and maintain a current certificate with Human Resources.
  11. Must clear a Department of Justice background check including fingerprinting before start date and maintain clearance.
  12. Must be able to work in a DSS Community Care Licensed Facility.
  13. Must clear a health screening, including TB before start date and maintain clearance.
  14. Must have a car, valid California Driver License and be able to drive, have a clean driving record and maintain a clean driving record.
  15. Meet and maintain the minimum vehicle liability and property insurance limits (to be insured by our insurance carrier for using vehicle for business purposes such as transportation of residents or reimbursement of business-related mileage expenses).
