FLORIDA COMMISSION ON OFFENDER REVIEW

The Florida Commission on Offender Review, formerly known as the Florida Parole Commission, is looking to fill a Government Analyst I – CS. The Commission on Offender Review performs a vital role in Florida’s criminal justice system by preserving the autonomy needed in post-release decisions affecting inmates and ex-offenders. The commission functions as a quasi-judicial, decision-making body. Commissioners preside over weekly meetings at the central office in Tallahassee and various other state locations as required by statute. During these public proceedings, the commissioners make a variety of determinations regarding parole and other releases.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Monitors monthly Parole and Conditional Release Supervision Review lists to ensure that the Office of the Commission Clerk received all the reviews scheduled for each month. Each Florida Department of Corrections P&P Region office receives a copy for the cases in their region scheduled for review, conducts the review, and e-mails it to the Florida Commission on Offender Review (FCOR).
  • Review Parole and Conditional Release Supervision Reviews for accuracy. This entails reviewing CDC to ensure information accuracy and corresponding with offenders' supervising officers.
  • Conduct a quality assurance review of all special conditions that the Commission has placed on inmates who will be released on Conditional Release and Addiction Recovery Supervision. Review the language of the special conditions to ensure the appropriate data entries have been entered into the CDC database.
  • Review Parole docket pages for accuracy. This involves reviewing the Commission meeting recordings and verifying information on the parole docket pages, Commission Action Forms, and the information in CDC are accurate.
  • Review and process Judicial Notices for the purpose of notifying the Chief Judge of the possible release of a Parole eligible inmate. This involves investigating and finding various documents on On-Base and CDC. A case summary is then prepared and mailed to the Chief Judge.
  • Ensure medical reports are complete and request progress reports once a Conditional Medical Release has been granted.
  • Inmate Family Coordinator (assist family members and supporters of the inmate, before and after Commission Meetings).
  • Performs other duties as required such as and possible out of town travel no more than 4 times in a year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Preference may be given to applicants that possess a college degree from an accredited college or university.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of standard business formats, styles of letters, and business forms.
  • Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette techniques.
  • Skill in using personal computers to compose letters, memoranda, and reports.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of assignments.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Ability to work independently.

As a part of the interview process, a written work sample may be given at the start/conclusion of the verbal interview.
