The Mermaid Holding Co. is Hiring a Human Resources Manager Near New York, NY

We are hiring a Human Resources Manager for The Mermaid Inn!

MERMAID HOSPITALITY is a family of casually sophisticated seafood restaurants born in New York in 2003. Starting out in Manhattan’s East Village as a spot-on rendition of a casual New England fish shack, The Mermaid Inn has morphed into an American seafood brasserie, replete with style, hospitality and a menu marked by bold and seasonally inspired cuisine. The Mermaid Inn has been designed to evoke the feeling of being on a mini vacation in a small seaside village.

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for the planning and support of our workforce at four restaurant locations. They will oversee and supervise all HR functions, including HR compliance, payroll, benefits administration, recruiting, hiring, and onboarding. The Human Resources Manager will also serve as a key point of contact for employee relations matters and will support line managers and staff in resolving conflicts and maintaining a positive and dynamic work environment.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates as the Human Resources Manager for all Mermaid Inn and Mermaid Oyster Bar locations, serving as the internal point of contact for personnel, benefit, and compensation concerns.
  • Develops the HR function in line with current business requirements as well as strategic long-term planning for company expansion.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal employments laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; educates managers on key compliance issues and communicates updates to team members as appropriate.
  • Utilizes HRIS and payroll system to oversee the onboarding and offboarding process for all employees, including completion and acknowledgment legal documentation, tax forms, company policies, required trainings, etc.
  • Acts as a sounding board for employee concerns, counselling employees and managers on employee relations issues as needed; escalates issues and conducts investigations in conjunction with the appropriate parties as necessary.
  • Partners with all leaders within the organization by encouraging a team-oriented mindset, building strong relationships, and being a sounding board for ideas and improvements.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $80,000 - $90,000 annually

Position requirements and preferred qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of related HR experience
  • Strong computer skills and experience with office management
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge in labor laws set by governing authorities and organizations
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership, training, and developmental skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • ADP Workforce Now experience preferred
  • Proficient with payroll software
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred but not required

  • Must be able to work on-site on a regular basis
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer
  • Must be able to stand, bend, reach, and lift a minimum of ten pounds
