Spiegel & McDiarmid LLP is Hiring a Litigation Paralegal Near Washington, DC

Small prominent DC based law firm seeks a full-time Paralegal with excellent attention to detail and Bluebook and cite-checking skills. Successful candidate will work simultaneously with teams of lawyers and other employees. Candidate must have solid academic credentials, excellent skills in communications, proofreading, and research. Candidate must have a strong desire to grow professionally in the legal environment and the ability to learn specific practice area and firm processes. Position is non-exempt and requires working a minimum of 3 days on-site per work week.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of briefs and pleadings, consisting largely of cite-checking/proofreading.
  • Monitor cases and agency filings for attorneys and clients.
  • Prepare reports for attorneys and clients on industry trends, updates, and deadlines.
  • Manage multiple deadlines on competing projects.
  • Coordinate workflows with multiple lawyers and employees.
  • Actively and attentively listen to and report on regulatory commission meetings.
  • Respond to research requests.
  • Maintain case document databases.
  • Identify and assemble documents relevant to case issues.
  • Participate in team discussions of case strategies.
  • Assist in discovery and trial preparation.
  • Work closely with and provide general support to attorneys.

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree with excellent academic credentials.
  • Paralegal certificate a PLUS.
  • Proficient Bluebook cite-checking ability.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, writing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Research experience
  • Willingness to take responsibility for assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Minimum of 3 years solid paralegal experience with proofreading and performing Bluebook cite-checking.
  • Available to work Monday-Friday in a collegial, teamwork-focused environment and be flexible for overtime when needed. Overtime is infrequent and typically known in advance.
  • Litigation experience in a law firm environment; FERC experience a plus.
  • Management experience a plus.
  • Training experience a plus.

The firm offers competitive compensation (mid-90’s to low-100’s), with merit and bonus potential, along with an excellent benefits package. The firm office is Metro-accessible. This is a non-exempt position; and a hybrid work arrangement working on-site 3-days per week and requires local DC Metro area residency.
