Title:Program Assistant
Department:Nutrition and Senior Centers
FLSA Status:Non-Exempt
Reports To: Community Service Manager
Summary:Assists in planning and implementing program activities and performs other duties at designated centers or at other locations for special events.
Essential Functions:
1.Assists in the planning, promotion and implementation of educational, health and recreational activities at various centers.
2.Provides information, referrals and translation regarding health, welfare and other resources for program participants and the public.
3.Promotes meal services by conducting outreach to community-based organizations, groups and individuals, and scheduling and making presentations to various target groups.
4.Conducts client intakes; organizes and keeps service records and data as required; and prepares monthly service reports.
5.Documents services according to program protocol; submits monthly service logs and reports as needed.
6.Assists with food service as needed.
7.Participates in professional development training sessions as assigned.
8.Participates in staff meetings and other meetings as required.
9.Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1.College degree with two years of experience in community service.
2.Must possess strong self-motivation and ability to work with elderly people of all socioeconomic backgrounds; experience in working with seniors is strongly preferred.
3.Must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.
4.Must be bilingual and bi-literate in English and Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin).
5.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Internet.
6.Must be able to work weekends.
7.Must pass a strength test for physical fitness for the job: able to lift and/or carry 35 lbs.
8.Must pass health screening for TB clearance.
9.Must obtain First Aid and CPR certificates by the end of the 3-month introductory period.
10.Must be able to travel via public transportation or personal vehicle for the performance of job duties. If driving, must have and maintain a valid CA driver license, satisfactory driving record, and auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy.
