Rochester Fringe Festival is Hiring a Controller Near Rochester, NY

The Rochester Fringe Festival, New York State’s largest multidisciplinary performing arts festival, is currently hiring a Controller! As the Controller, you'll provide strategic leadership and oversight of our accounting, financial, and "controllership" services, ensuring the smooth operation of our organization year-round and during our exciting festival season.

We are seeking an individual known for their meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, adeptness in financial analysis, and dedication to upholding fiscal integrity, all while fostering a collaborative and team-oriented environment. A passion for the arts, a commitment to the Fringe’s mission, and experience in non-profit finance are all essential.

This is a part-time, employee position. While the festival itself lasts 12 days, the Fringe is a year-round organization. It is expected that the Controller will work approximately 12 hours/week during the off season ramping up to 25 hours per week during the on-season of August, September, and October.

Duties will include the following:

  • Manage all aspects of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and present to the finance committee and board of directors.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and NYS non-profit regulations.
  • Provide guidance on technical accounting issues.
  • Manage cash flow and treasury functions.
  • Supervise payroll processing and accounts payable/receivable activities.
  • Utilize QuickBooks software for financial recordkeeping.
  • Handle financial grant reporting and the tracking of restricted grants as required.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the festival producer on budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Coordinate with HR and our payroll provider on financial matters as needed.
  • Ensure timely entry of biweekly retirement plan contributions.

In addition, we seek an experienced professional who matches the following required qualifications:

  • Experience in a similar, finance leadership role.
  • Strong experience in non-profit finance.
  • Strong proficiency in Quickbooks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to think in a flexible manner.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.

Bonus points for meeting the follow preferred criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Master's degree preferred)
  • CPA designation.
  • Specific training in non-profit finance.
  • Experience in arts/culture funding.
  • Experience in capital campaigns.
