SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing detailed accounting work required to maintain the general ledger. The person should be a highly motivated self-starter with strong attention to details. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, month end close, financial reporting, and year-end audit preparation.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and upload journal entries, reclassification entries and allocation entries.
  • Maintain fixed assets and records depreciation.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly facility invoices.
  • Coordinates and produces monthly and annual financial statements as well as ad hoc financial reports.
  • Backup and support to accounts payable and payroll functions.
  • Assist with the compilation of information for the annual audit with outside CPA firm
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure. 
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Facilitate core values of teamwork, community, quality, and service.
  • Looks for ways to process improve or leverage technology to streamline processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Skills:

  • Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying
  • conditions.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to a satisfactory standard. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education and/or Experience: Possess a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting. At least three (3) to four (4) years of experience in financial statement preparation, general ledger/month end close, and fixed assets. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Experience in healthcare is preferred.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license required. 

Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills.

Computer Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Advanced computer skills utilizing accounting software and databases. NetSuite and PowerBI experience a plus.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to organize and manage personal workload. Strong problem-solving skills.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time and up to the entire shift. Travel is primarily local during the day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel for conferences may be required. Air travel may also be required.
