Job Title: Project Manager for The Thriving Black Church Initiative

Position Summary:

The Project Manager for the Thriving Black Church Initiative (TBCI) will ensure complete, thorough, and successful alignment of TBCI with the initiative’s strategic goals, constructing detailed work plans, coordinating teams, achieving milestones, and communicating results to internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

  1. Manage multiple projects related to TBCI and as assigned from inception to completion.
  2. Work with the Marketing Project Management team and internal stakeholders (i.e., Partnerships & Church Engagement, Media, Publishing and VOICES, ODB University, and Grants) to develop and establish project plans, requirements, deliverables, timelines, and deadlines that move the TBCI program toward meeting its strategic goals.
  3. Exercise the ability to articulate and communicate the vision, purpose, and positioning of TBCI projects.
  4. Coordinate communication among various internal and external teams and with outside contractors and vendors as needed to ensure complete understanding of project plans, requirements, deliverables, and deadlines.
  5. Identify, track, and report on each project’s scope, timeframe, and cost. 
  6. Develop specific process flows for each project and make recommendations on process improvements.
  7. Work with marketing print and digital design teams, IS, production, customer service and others collaboratively to provide clarity, efficiency, and thorough completion of projects.
  8. Be thorough in knowledge of the product, target audience, and competitor activity in the market.
  9. Brainstorm ideas and concepts with the Marketing Project Management team and with individuals and departments involved in the TBCI and related programs and campaigns (e.g., VOICES, Media, ODB University).
  10. Responsible for successfully planning and ensuring all TBCI projects are delivered on time and with excellence, including coordinating marketing copy needs for products, websites, social media channels, brochures, promotional videos, and any other forms of advertising, promotion, and content marketing.
  11. In tandem with the appropriate marketing stakeholder, coordinate ongoing research efforts around current and future segments, audience needs and audience behavior to create relevant, compelling, and differentiating communication.
  12. Other duties as assigned. 

Study or Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, corporate journalism, or similar area of study required.
  • Project Management Professional, (PMP) Marketing Project Management certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience with marketing in the publishing or other content-based industry is preferred but not required.
  • At least two years of professional experience in Project Management, organizational planning, and execution.
  • Must be capable of strategic and tactical planning within a marketing framework.
  • Must be able to work cross-departmentally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Print and digital marketing competencies and understanding of analytics is preferred (i.e., web, social media, email, newsletters, direct mail, etc.).
  • Must be capable of coordinating multiple efforts and keep track of the details for several simultaneous projects. 
  • Demonstrate ability to be a self-starter and assertive in dealing with individuals/groups/vendors.
  • Able to develop agendas and coordinate and lead meetings as necessary to maintain deadlines and approvals for all projects.
  • Capable of excellent diplomatic oral/written communication skills including knowledge and ability to negotiate depending upon need.
  • Able to provide limited and reasonable Administrative Assistance and Event Planning as needed. 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (PPT, Word & Excel), Asana required.
  • Strive to live a life consistent with biblical principles, engaged with the Bible on a consistent basis and demonstrate continued growth and spiritual development. 

Internal Work Environment:

Must be capable of diplomatic partnership style communication with the assigned ministry effort team(s). Persuasion, discretion, and tact needed to educate and gain support for complex marketing and project efforts with individuals and/or groups both inside and outside the organization.

External Communication:

High degree of communication required in networking with other organizations, consultants, and vendors. Professionalism, assertiveness, tact, and persuasion required. Responsible for decisions that will affect how the public views ODBM and TBCI.

Leadership Responsibilities:

In partnership with the Partnerships & Church Engagement, Media, Marketing, Publishing and VOICES, ODB University, and Grants, depending on the type of project, manage the execution for all approved projects and other projects as assigned by the Director of Partnerships and Church Engagement and the Director of Marketing Project Management.

Stewardship of Resources:

Along with other team members associated with the Lilly Endowment funded project (TBCI); Partnerships & Church Engagement, Marketing, ODB Publishing and VOICES, ODB University, ODB Media, Discovery Series, Our Daily Bread, and Human Resources, responsible for the continued success of brands and related marketing efforts. 

Miscellaneous:

Some domestic travel might be required.
