Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Program Director.
The core focus of this mission-critical position is to foster community-led and -informed Type II diabetes (T2D) equity research by integrating community engagement across the research spectrum. Established in September 2023 with funding from the National Institute of Health, the National Center for Engagement in Diabetes Equity Research: National CEDER aims to strengthen the engagement of researchers, community organizations, health systems, and other partners in T2D-related research. National CEDER represents a public-private partnership with national reach that is amplified through an expansive partnership of 18 academic institutions, including schools of public health, schools of medicine, and minority-serving institutions; and 10 regional and national community-based organizations. The Center will provide an array of services to advance research in T2D equity, including consultations on equity frameworks, approaches, and methods; and studios on the operations and the real-world application of partner engagement in research. We are searching for a dynamic, experienced, and equity-oriented Assistant Program Director to launch the Center and bring its vision to reality, overseeing implementation of key Center services, attracting an engaged base of Center service users, and evaluating the Centers short and long-term impact. Reports to Principal Investigators and/or Faculty Lead.

Job Responsibilities:

Community Capacity & Leadership Development & Support

    • Leads the development and delivery of capacity-building and networking resources (e.g. events, trainings, materials) for various audiences on principles of research, research priority development, research collaboration and dissemination strategies.
    • Lead strategies to build and support leadership development and mentoring of a deep pipeline and collective of partners from a variety of settings for research engagement roles.
    • Develops new ideas that promote Center goals and objectives. Exercises a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive scientific programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance.
    • Maintains a thorough knowledge of innovations in community engagement and diabetes equity research through attendance of scientific conferences and review of relevant literature.
    • May make significant contributions to scientific papers. Is a resource/ author/ co-author for reports and presentations.

Community Engagement & Participatory Governance

    • Advance a range of diverse partners' leadership in CEDER decision-making, participatory governance, and resource and opportunity allocation to include:developing strategies and tactics to intentionally engage partners across the network;and working with network partners to design and model processes to define, measure, evaluate, and address CEDER's impact.
    • Supports CEDER efforts to identify, develop, and deepen relationships with a broad range of partners. This includes attending and representing CEDER at community meetings and civic events (may include some evening or weekend hours).

Administration and Leadership

    • Report directly to principal investigators on the progress and accomplishments of Center goals and objectives.
    • Initiates, interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research assignments critical to department's mission.
    • Ensure seamless coordination and communication across CEDER cores and services.
    • Serves as a trusted thought-partner and integral member of CEDER leadership team; advises on consultation and studio development and implementation, strategic direction of other CEDER priorities, and best practices and metrics for community impact evaluation.
    • Serves as key member of Administrative Core for CEDER and provides consultation on community leadership to other departments within NYU and affiliated institutions.
    • Supervises Center staff, including hiring, scheduling, evaluation, ensuring roles and responsibilities are being carried out, and providing support for professional development activities.
    • Administrates program budget, in collaboration with Center PIs. Responsible for the budget management and resources allocation. Reviews sponsor-proposed budget for adequate coverage and recommend changes as appropriate. Reviews workflow and recommend improvement if applicable to ensure appropriate cycle times and efficiency. Assists in the preparation of funding reports to funding agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience working 10 years of community-engagement experience; Understanding and/or experience with community-engaged research project or partnerships and/or in university/academic setting; Strong knowledge, community connections, and experience in working with communities most impacted by health inequities including Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Arab, Asian, LGBTQ , and/or people living with disabilities, including community priorities, local issues/history, etc.; Active anti-racist, anti-oppressive lens for working relationships; challenging white supremacy tenets and traditional power dynamics, and navigating tensions existing within institutional environments; Great communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking, group facilitation, and writing. Able to interact effectively with a broad range of people (e.g., grassroots to institutional leadership); Demonstrated ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion; Ability to independently establish and implement priorities and objectives and identify new opportunities; Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects. Must possess efficient time management skills with an ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work with minimal direction and on a self-directed basis as well as in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD, MD, or equivalent degree and are expected to have a growing track record of research achievements, including funding, impactful publications and experience implementing community-engaged and health equity and inclusive initiatives. Experience or expertise in implementation of diabetes or cardiovascular disease-related programming or research. Familiarity with peer, community health worker or community-clinical linkage models.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $110,479.20 - $184,132.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
