The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Rate: $21.05

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under thesupervision of the MCOT Supervisor, provides screening, completion of assessments,and crisis interventions to determine eligibility for crisis services, intakesand admission to adult mental health services. Completes intake as appropriateincluding the biopsychosocial, diagnostic impression and ANSA. Consults andcommunicates with Mobile Crisis Outreach Supervisor or other available LPHA inthe clinical setting. Crisis assessments/interventions are completed as neededin a timely manner. Responsible for coordination and linkage to internal andexternal providers based on individuals needs with focus on discharge to theleast restrictive environment inclusive of review of needed services, skillstraining, and psychosocial rehabilitation - monitors consumers progress withmeeting treatment goals. Delivers interventions such as crisis de-escalation,case management, treatment planning, and discharge planning.

This position provides authorization for treatmentthrough diagnostic evaluation, needs and strengths assessment and otherclinical assessments to determine the lowest level of care. Certified or willobtain certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through DSHS requiredinstruction and supervision. This position offers CBT to individuals who meetthe state's level of care criteria. Facilitate groups as needed and provide anyother tasks as needed and/or assigned. Intern completes the diagnostic evaluationfor authorization and signature of the MCOT Supervisor (LPHA).

Minimum Qualifications

Master'sDegree from accredited college or university with major in counseling,psychology, social work or other field related to human behavior.Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate (LPC-A), LicensedClinical Social Worker Intern (LCSW-I) or Licensed Marriage & FamilyTherapist - Associate (LMFT-A). Licensure must be maintained, and be in goodstanding, for the duration of employment. Must have at least one year'sexperience working with individuals with severe mental illness(es). Experiencein social and rehabilitative work. Must have a Valid Texas Driver's License andgood driving record. 

PREFERRED: Bilingual(English/Spanish). Must be within 1 year of full licensureor a fully Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical SocialWorker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Stateof Texas. Have knowledge of the principles and practices of clinicalsupervision, management and of local, state and federal laws andregulations relevant to the program area.

Goodcomputer skills - ability to enter information into electronic medical recordsand use of Microsoft Office products.

  • Knowledge ofmental illness, psychotropic medications, their uses and typical sideeffects. Knowledge of mental Health Code and community resources.
  • Ability towork cooperatively with a variety of professionals and non-professionals.

  • Ability toprepare concise reports ad communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge ofpsychiatric diagnoses, psychological assessment and treatmentplanning.
  • Knowledge ofindividual's with mental illness. Good counseling skills. Computer literacy.
  • In the courseof being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
  • Demonstrationof the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training.
  • Computerliterate 
  • Ability toparticipate as a team member.
  • Ability to identifydifficulties with coping in community settings.
  • Knowledge ofclient care techniques, and of treatment, therapy and of developmental programs.
  • Ability todevelop an individualized treatment plan with consumer.
  • Ability to workwith others and to gain and retain the confidence of persons being instructed,guided, or directed.
  • Abilityto communicate effectively.
  • Abilityto formulate, organize, and implement a plan of action.
  • Localcommunity resource knowledge.
