The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $23.12, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under the general direction of the Crisis ServicesProgram Manager, responsible for clinical screenings, assessments, crisisintervention, and determining service eligibility based on consumer needs.Coordinates and links to needed services, provides skills training andpsychosocial rehabilitation as appropriate, and monitors consumer progress withmeeting treatment goals. Delivers interventions such as crisis de-escalation,case management services, treatment planning and discharge planning. Provides clinicalinterventions to address the need for on-going outpatient services and/orinpatient admission. This position requires travel and flexible hours. Works under general supervision, withmoderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. 

Minimum Requirements 

As the LocalMental Health Authority, a qualified mental health professional (QMHP-CS) withdemonstrated and documented competency in the work to be performed is definedas an employee with a minimum of a bachelor's or advance degree from anaccredited college or university with a major in psychology, social work,medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, physicianassistant, gerontology, special education, educational psychology, earlychildhood education or early childhood intervention.

Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicleto conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liabilityinsurance and a good driving record.

Preferred:Experience working with persons with serious mental illness. Bilingual in bothEnglish/Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required byagency-approved, standardized training
  • Computer literate 
  • Ability to participate as a team member 
  • Basic understanding of mental illness, common signs andsymptoms, and able to identify difficulties with coping in community settings
  • Considerable knowledge of assessment techniques andtools
  • Knowledge of client care techniques, and of treatment, therapyand of developmental programs
  • Ability to develop an individualized treatment plan withconsumer
  • Ability to work with others and to gain and retain theconfidence of persons being instructed, guided, or directed
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to formulate, organize, and implement aplan of action.
  • Localcommunity resource knowledge
