The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $20.85 to $23.12, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Performspsychosocial rehabilitation planning and instructional work. Responsible fordelivery of rehabilitative training and case management services for assignedcaseload; coordination of consumer's needs in order to maintain stability inthe community and achieve independence; crisis prevention and intervention. Seeksto reduce jail recidivism rates for people with serious emotional illnesses andhigh risk for recidivism who frequently cycle thorough the criminal justicesystem, local emergency and hospital service. Will provide on call services inorder to create a bridge to treatment to increase access to mental health andsubstance abuse treatment. Will providecomplex professional duties related to the provision of outpatient mentalhealth services while incorporating individualized treatment planning. Under the general supervision of the ForensicACT Team Supervisor, identifies clients' rehabilitation and servicecoordination needs and provides the necessary instruction in teachingself-help, self-care and skills according to the needs outlined in the clientevaluations. Assists clients in attaining their optimum levels of independenceand recovery. Collects, prepares, andreviews case data used to determine client eligibility for financial, medical,and/or social services. Servicesprovided to adults of all ages with a priority population diagnosis of mentalillness who exhibit serious emotional, behavioral and/or mental disorder andthose at high risk for recidivism who frequent hospitals, jails, and substanceuse facilities. Will follow the Fidelity ACT model

Minimum Qualifications

Aminimum of a bachelor's or advance degree from an accredited college oruniversity with a major in a social, behavioral, or human service fieldincluding, but not limited to, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing,rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology,educational psychology, and education.

Experience in social and rehabilitative services work or inteaching and counseling persons with disabilities. Valid Texas driver's licensewith good driving record.

Preferred: Plus, one to two years of work experience inrehabilitation services. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Inthe course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed carepractices.
  • Demonstrationof the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training
  • ValidTexas driver's license
  • Computerliterate
  • Abilityto participate as a team member
  • Experiencein the use of teaching and counseling techniques and rehabilitation servicesrequired in providing effective assistance to persons who are disabled
  • Considerableknowledge of assessment techniques and tools
  • Knowledgeof client care techniques, and of treatment, therapy and of developmentalprograms
  • Abilityto plan an individualized program of instruction with the client
  • Abilityto work with others and to gain and retain the confidence of persons beinginstructed, guided, or directed.
  • Abilityto communicate effectively.
  • Abilityto formulate, organize, and implement a plan of action.
  • Musthave reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business.Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a gooddriving record.
