The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $20.85 to $23.12, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Performs moderatelycomplex rehabilitation planning and instructional work. Responsible fordelivery of rehabilitative training for assigned caseload; coordination ofconsumer's needs in order to maintain stability in the community and achieveindependence; crisis prevention and intervention. Provides skills training to address negativebehaviors that are symptoms of emotional disturbance in order to help youthfunction independently in school, home and in the community. Collects,prepares, and reviews case data used to determine client eligibility forfinancial, medical, and/or social services. Services provided to childrenages 3 to 17 with a diagnosis of mental illness who exhibit serious emotional,behavioral or mental disorders. Community-based services. Requires travelwithin city and flexible hours. 

Minimum Requirements 

A minimum of a bachelor's or advance degree from anaccredited college or university with a major in psychology, social work,medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth anddevelopment, physician assistant, gerontology, special education, educationalpsychology, early childhood education or early childhood intervention. Musthave reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business.Must have a valid Texas driver's license at all times, liability insurance anda good driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to participate as a team member
  • Experience in the use of teaching and counseling techniques and rehabilitation services required in providing effective assistance to persons who are disabled
  • Considerable knowledge of assessment techniques and tools
  • Knowledge of client care techniques, and of treatment, therapy and of developmental programs
  • Ability to plan an individualized program of instruction with the client
  • Ability to work with others and to gain and retain the confidence of persons being instructed, guided, or directed
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to formulate, organize, and implement a plan of action.
  • In the course of being employed,understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
