The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $13.12

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Performsmoderately complex (journey level) habilitative client care work. Work involvesimplementing treatment programs, evaluating and revising program goals and objectives,and performing therapeutic or developmental activities. May train and/orsupervise the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderatelatitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:Must be at least 18 years of age. May substitute preferred educationalrequirements with a written competency-based assessment given by the Center ofthe ability to document service delivery and observations of the individuals tobe served and at least three written, personal references from persons notrelated by blood that indicate the ability to provide a safe, healthyenvironment for the individuals being served.

Preferred:Experience working with persons with intellectual or developmentaldisabilities. Graduation from a standard high school or GED. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:Must have the ability to provide care, training, and supervision to individualswith intellectual and developmental disabilities. Must have the ability tocommunicate verbally and in writing in English. Must have skill in the use of acomputer and applicable software (Microsoft Outlook/Word/etc., SmartCare,EVV/AuthentiCare, other Center systems). Must have reliable transportation, avalid driver's license at all times, liability insurance, and a good drivingrecord. May use personal vehicle to conduct business and must have ability tooperate Center vehicles, including a wheelchair lift. Must have willingness tobe flexible with schedule to include evenings and weekends when client needarises. Must have ability (after Center training) to administer first aid,cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and SAMA ("Satori Alternatives to ManagingAggression"). Must (after Center training), and in the course of beingemployed, understand and implement trauma-informed care practices.

Preferred:Knowledge of habilitative and rehabilitative programs for individuals with intellectualand developmental disabilities. Knowledge of client techniques and oftreatment, therapy, and developmental programs.
