Reports to: Director of Finance and HR
Accountable to: Executive Director and Senior Program Director
Communicates with: Director of Accounts and Funding, each of the 5 Program Directors, Director of Core Values, Lake Shore Schools staff, Tiny Giants staff, families, community partners, and agencies.
Overview: The Human Resources Generalist performs duties in the following areas of the human resources department: policies and procedures, recruiting and on/off onboarding, employee benefits and compensation, worker’s comp and leaves of absence, compliance and training, recordkeeping of employee files, and other HR projects as assigned. The Human Resources Generalist will respond to employee inquiries, escalate issues to the appropriate parties when needed, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Responsibilities
● Updates and maintains new hires' paperwork and current employees' files.
● Creates and maintains procedures for new hires, rehires, transfers, promotions, and
terminations.
● Implements new hire orientation processes for each center, including explaining policies, procedures, and standards.
● Explains the benefits package and helps employees sign up after the completion of the
introductory period and during open enrollment.
● Overseeing open enrollment and other deadlines.
● Assists the Director of Finance and HR with the processing of payrolls by updating
payroll notes weekly.
● Assists in meeting requirements for DCFS/DFSS.
● Assists in the completion of administrative tasks.
● Identify areas for training and development.
● Provides monthly reports regarding work anniversaries, 30-day and 90-day marks for
new employees to each program director.
● Daily management of both HR email addresses.
● Manages the HR Status Report and collaborates with program directors to help and
understand the hiring needs of each center.
● Identifies staffing and recruitment needs by keeping job postings updated, going to
career fairs, and establishing relationships with colleges and other organizations.
● Conducts monthly audits of benefits billing (BCBS, Guardian, Dearborn) and alerts the
Director of Finance and HR when discrepancies are found.
● Issues a monthly HR Newsletter to staff including reminders about policies and
procedures, HR-related articles, information about benefits, important dates, work
anniversaries, etc.
● Develops and maintains professional relationships with each center's administrative
teams.
● Assists with projects assigned by the Executive Director, Senior Program Director, and
Director of Finance and HR.
Qualifications
● At least 1 year of office experience
● A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in HR, 2 years of HR experience, or a Bachelor’s
degree in a related field.
● Minimum 1 year experience with employee relations
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, ProCare, and related software
● Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
● Ability to work in a collaborative environment and establish respectful relationships
● Ability to resolve issues and demonstrate good judgment
● Ability to process and handle confidential information
● Demonstrate ability to research, analyze, and report data
● Able to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the program
