Job Description

Job Overview:
The Director of Human Resources is charged with setting the vision and strategy of programs and practices related to human resources at KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Director of Human Resources manages the Human Resources Team to ensure successful day-to-day human resource operations. The Director of Human Resources ensures that KIPP Metro Atlanta’s human resources systems and processes are established, codified and support long term organizational health and sustainability. The Director of Human Resources works closely with key stakeholders across the organization to provide services that facilitate the successful support of organization goals in the areas of employment, employee relations, recruitment, retention, compensation, employee services, diversity & inclusion, wellness, and benefits administration.

Job Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Execution 40%

  • Set, direct, and execute the human resources strategy at KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools to ensure human resources systems and processes are established, codified and support long term organizational health and sustainability
  • Develop benchmarks for success and track and maintain comprehensive data as a source for developing and improving upon existing systems and procedures related to human resources including employee engagement, retention, compensation, benefits and employee relations
  • Partner with the Executive Team and Human Resources Team to refine how we staff, on-board, develop, motivate, and retain high quality employees

Team Leadership & Management 35%

  • Manage Human Resources Team and build capacity in direct reports through comprehensive development including the establishment of performance goals, regular check-ins, observations, timely feedback and professional development opportunities
  • Hold team accountable to performance goals and metrics identified through organizational planning and as part of their day-to-day duties
  • Lead human resources administration functions including benefits program selection and implementation, compensation, employee relations, customer service, compliance, staff policies, retention and staff information systems
  • Assist with the design, implementation and management of the organization’s compensation program, lead benefit negotiation and design benefits package (PTO, health, TRS, etc.) and partner with COO to administer and implement worker’s compensation program

Compliance 25%

  • Maintains responsibility for compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to all personnel matters as well as supporting with all federal, state and authorizer reporting requirements
  • Design annual review process and makes recommendations to Executive Team for improvement of policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters
  • Provides support/coaching to Principals and Executive Team on employee relations issues, consulting with legal counsel as appropriate on personnel matters

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Human Resources Management, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Human resources professional certification preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of work experience with at least 5 years of human resources experience and 4 years of supervisory and management experience in a large, multi-facility, mission-driven organization, preferably within a school district
  • Advanced knowledge of human resources best practices
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to solve complex problems and implement solutions, an ability to manage both the big picture and the details, and a strong sense of judgment
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines and the ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities, multi-task, work in a fast paced demanding environment, operate effectively with ambiguity, and willing to learn and take on new responsibilities
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills and ability to build meaningful relationships quickly
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive key decisions that impact multiple stakeholder groups across the organization

Additional Information

Compensation:

Compensation for this role is between $85,000 and $100,000. Most candidates would be compensated at $90,000. The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, and certifications. KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools offers a competitive benefits package that includes:

  • 19 days of Paid Time Off, in addition to identified holidays and regular school breaks including Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, Mid-Winter Break and Spring Break.

  • Participation in Georgia retirement plan and an optional 403(b) retirement plan

Location & Work Conditions:

This position requires candidates to be based in Atlanta and regularly be in schools and able to attend in person meetings and events. Additional in person time may be necessary based upon organizational needs.
