Business Need / Purpose of RoleAs an HR Business Partner, reporting to the Head of HR – Americas, you will be an integral member of the North America Human Resources team, assuming responsibility for the Human Resources portfolio across all North America locations. Partnering with the region’s business and functional leaders in the organization to implement, standardize, and develop applicable HR process and procedures, aligned to global HR policies.

  • Ensure the HR process and procedures, governance & controls adheres to group policy and statutory requirements.
  • Ownership of the North America Region People and Culture initiatives to enable and drive the business for growth and sustained success.
  • Hands-on approach to drive HR operations as well as the ability to successfully monitor the "pulse" of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement.
  • Translate current and future business needs into an integrated strategic workforce plan.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary issues, and grievances).
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Contribute to group HR projects as required

Duties and Responsibilities:HR Strategy, Leadership and Coordination

  • Support implementation of Group HR Strategy, Policies and Procedures in North America.
  • Lead and support any change agenda, advising on people decisions to drive effectiveness.
  • Ensure that HR issues are given full consideration in all decision making.
  • Ensure effective, fair, and equitable management of employees.
  • Provide advice, information and support to business managers, line managers and employees on HR policies and procedures in line with group policy and best practice.
  • Focus on the continuous improvement of HR processes and procedures.

Payroll

  • Oversee payroll processes for both US and Canada, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in payroll administration.
  • Collaborate with SSC India and managers to review approve payroll runs, ensuring adherence to company policies, legal requirements, and best practices.

Recruitment

  • Collaborate closely with the Talent Acquisition team for the region to develop and implement recruitment strategies and workforce needs.
  • Support, communicate, train, and advise the management team on recruitment initiatives and interviewing techniques.

Talent Management & Retention

  • Support talent, retention, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Working with the regional and global HR team on talent management strategy and the annual talent review process.
  • Support, communicate, and advise management on their talent development initiatives.

Compensation And Benefits

  • Works closely with Group HR to consolidate local Compensation Committee recommendations.
  • Mange the administration of all employee benefits programs such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, 401(k), leave of absence and wellness programs.
  • Handle day-to-day benefits operations including enrollments, terminations, and changes.
  • Provide advice to employees about benefit options and any changes that might occur.
  • Assist in the benefit renewal process annual open enrollment, and new hire orientation.

Performance Management

  • Coordinate the performance management of employees, including job description formulation, assessments, and promotions.
  • Drive best practice and act as counsel to management on all issues of employee performance.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to employment, benefits and payroll administration including FMLA, ADA, COBRA, HIPPA, FLSA, etc.
  • Knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, employee benefits, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Action-oriented, with ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, handle adversity and frequent change, and balance workload and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, multitask and possess strong initiative, exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
  • Ability to react to change quickly and effectively manage additional essential tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to turn programmatic and operational concepts into employee training programs and facilitate training to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to develop strong business relationships within all levels of management; ability to understand, influence and persuade across all levels of the organization, exercising a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to think logically, establish and follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and reprioritize tasks in response to unexpected changes in priorities or processes.
  • Ability to gather, organize, and analyze narrative and statistical data analyze problems, consider options, formulate strategies, and make practical recommendations.
  • Ability to support teams remotely and the ability to adjust communication style for different situations and cultures.
  • Strong business partner and relationship building capabilities across a diverse international group.
  • Must exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy while demonstrating a high degree of integrity and judgment in dealing with confidential matters and maintenance of sensitive records.
  • Possess a natural intellectual curiosity to find opportunities and solve problems.
  • Possess organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize, be detail oriented and results driven.
  • Possess high energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving, and attention to detail are paramount; accuracy is a must.
  • Must possess an advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel (macros, pivot tables, V-lookup), PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.

Education, Qualifications, Certifications, and Licenses

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related major in a public or accredited private academic institution required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in HR with progressive experience as a Generalist / Business Partner role, and with HR operations experience, preferably in a shipping / Port Services environment.
  • Experience in Change and Culture

Certifications:

  • PHR, SHRM- CP, SPHR or SHRM-SCP designation preferred.
