Health Management Associates is looking for a Controller reporting directly to the CFO to support our finance and accounting teams. This position is being recruited with a strong preference for location in the greater Chicago area.

This includes key trends such as alternative payment models, value-based measures, complex care management, strategic planning and integration of community-based partners into comprehensive systems of care. We support our clients from the initial planning stages through the development of successful funding and revenue maximation analyses, through detailed implementation, turnaround management and restructuring to ensure long-term sustainability. We also have extensive experience with behavioral health integration and strategic planning.
Job Summary
The Controller position is responsible for managing the accounting functions of the organization. This will include the periodic reporting of financial results, maintenance of the underlying accounting records and continual assessment of the systems of internal control. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and have experience with consolidated entities, private equity backed organizations, leveraged companies, and growth oriented professional services organizations. As part of a total finance & accounting team, the Controller is also responsible for oversight of the monthly production of client invoices, collection of accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger management.
Work Performed
Education/Training
At a minimum, the Controller must have an undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or economics. A master’s degree and/or Certified Public Accountant license is strongly preferred.
Experience
At least 15 years in various accounting/executive leadership roles in a variety of professional services and health care related businesses. Required competencies include financial management, business acumen, communication proficiency, ethical conduct, leadership, performance management, credibility, problem solving/analysis, strategic thinking, and technical capacity. Experience working with an employee base of at least 1000 employees in 45 states.

Working Conditions
Work is sedentary in nature and performed in an office environment. May require travel to other HMA offices. Involves frequent contact with staff and clients. Work may be stressful at times.

Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, climbing, and bending to files and supplies; mobility to complete errands; stand/sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone; requires sitting; standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress.
