The Controller role is responsible for directing the accounting and finance activities for Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc., its subsidiaries, and affiliates. The position will supervise Staff Accountants, while working closely with the Accounts Receivable Manager (and team of direct reports) to assume the functions of accounts payable while working through others, and project leaders throughout the firm. The Controller will ensure that proper internal control procedures are in place and monitored and that financial statements are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 

In turn the Controller will be an integral member of the national leadership team with direct influence over our profitability and growth reporting into our dedicated VP of Finance and Accounting. Together you will work to grow your immediate team, influence positive change and shape the way for a successful 2024 and beyond!

What you will do:

• Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements as well as the requirements of private contributions, loans, and government contracts
• Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
• In conjunction with the VP of Finance and Accounting, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis
• Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
• Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
• Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity

• 10 years’ experience as a senior-level accountant and/or prior Controller experience
• Prior leadership is required
• Experience within the AEC industry is required
• Advanced excel skills; proficient with pivot tables, v-look ups and alike
• Deltek experience highly preferred 
• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
• CPA advantageous but not mandatory
• Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
