Health Management Associates is Hiring an Accounts Payable Manager Near Chicago, IL

Overview

Job Summary

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounts payable function within HMA. This position works to ensure that all financial obligations to vendors, suppliers, and other entities are accurately processed and paid in a timely manner. The Accounts Payable Manager is also expected to supervise and mentor accounts payable team members.

Responsibilities

Work Performed and Job Requirements

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable department, including:
    • Invoice processing
    • Payment approvals
    • Vendor management
    • Expense report processing
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and internal controls in the accounts payable and expense reporting processes
  • Review and verify invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers by addressing payment inquiries or discrepancies promptly
  • Coordinate payment processes, including check runs, electronic fund transfers, and other payment methods
  • Prepare and analyze accounts payable reports to provide meaningful insights to leadership
  • Supervise and lead the accounts payable team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations
  • Monitor and manage the workload distribution among team members
  • Ensure team tasks and projects are completed accurately and on time
  • Identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement in the accounts payable and expense processes and implement appropriate solutions
  • Make observations and recommendations with respect to departmental spending and performance.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate financial statements and reporting
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Training

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.

Experience

3-5 years of experience in accounts payable and/or general accounting required. Supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of accounts payable principles and practices
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and recording skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities with conflicting deadlines and manage time well
  • Willingness to take initiative and be proactive
  • Ability to learn new systems and work well with a team
  • Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Work Aids and Equipment Used

Computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax, telephone, web conferencing.

Working Conditions

Work is sedentary in nature and performed in an office environment. Work may be stressful at times. 

Physical/Mental Demands

Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, climbing, and bending to files and supplies; mobility to complete errands; stand/sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone; requires sitting; standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress.
