Job Title: Business Development Manager

Department: Sales

Reports to:  Director of Sales


Position Summary:  The purpose of the Business Development Manager is to:

  • Work directly with engineers, architects, municipalities, developers, and other key decision makers to further educate and promote the use of geosynthetic based solutions for the site civil construction market, through scheduled luncheons, trade shows, professional associations, and seminars.
  • Work to generate specifications and industry acceptance of value-add solutions.
  • Create a pipeline of business logged into and tracked with CRM to pass along to the Territory Manager and sales teams.
  • Work with the Territory Manager to close sales by providing spec defense and technical support.


Responsibilities:

Sales Execution

  • Develop and execute annual business development plan focused on engineers, architects, municipalities, developers, and other key decision makers, development of promotional initiatives for key/growing product lines, vendor engagement & promotional efforts.
  • Establish & achieve both financial and non-financial goals for the territory on an annual basis.
  • Perform sales presentations & customer meetings to client base within the territory. Work with manufacturer/vendors to develop territory-specific value proposition at a product and/or industry level and present accordingly.
  • Successfully implement bid strategies to close business with customers. Work with the Technical Sales Representative to coordinate material quotations and proper project follow up with customers through efficient usage of the company CRM
  • Assist Technical Sales Representative/Key Vendor representative in providing project site assistance as required with PPE/ company branded safety vest. Achieve necessary approvals for accessing project sites as required by participating companies.
  • Generate & maintain a key opportunity/sales pipeline list in company CRM. Manage, update and track key projects in each market sector. Provide information to Director of Business Development monthly.
  • Routinely provide real-time project tracking updates to company leadership team and select vendor partners as defined by Director of Business Development
  • Provide needed sales information to Director of Business Development on a monthly/ongoing basis.
  • Communication of local competitive activities and pricing strategies to the Director of Business Development on an ongoing basis
  • Coordinate interaction between GeoSolutions engineering & environmental services offering and the client to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of company system and product offerings.
  • Foster good communication between client & GeoSolutions vendor/manufacturer partners to create win-win project solutions.

Customer Service/Nurturing

  • Develop and nurture engineers, architects, municipalities, developers, and other key decision makers. Promote the full array of GeoSolutions products & services to establish trusted business advisor status with key influencers within the market.
  • Personal interaction with focused customer base to pursue project opportunities and nurture value-added relationships. Create meeting & communication rhythms with customer base through intentional networking plan.
  • Work cross-functionally with Technical Sales Representative and warehouse personnel to ensure customer expectations are being met through on-time delivery and enhancement of the customer experience.
  • Work cross-functionally with vendor engineering support and Regional Sales Managers to ensure customer expectations are being met through on-time delivery and enhancement of the customer experience.
  • Create & maintain database of specifying engineers, architects, municipalities, developers, and other key decision makers engineers in CRM system that can be contacted routinely by GeoSolutions Marketing outreach campaigns
  • Identify key customers with whom to create customer appreciation opportunities where company brand can be highlighted (jobsite cookouts, event sponsorships, outdoor excursions/sporting events, etc.). Document customer appreciation for internal/external marketing & networking.

Large Project Management

  • Create, manage, and prioritize key projects list for internal consumption to GeoSolutions and for external reference by key vendor partners. All key projects to be captured and updated within company customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Successfully implement bid strategies to close large projects in conjunction with Territory Manager. Quotation generation will be the responsibility of the Territory Manager/Inside Sales Manager. Pricing negotiation may be co-managed by BDM, Technical Sales Representative & Director of Sales based on available information & project timing.
  • Coordinate promotional efforts and large project design/bidding strategies with key vendor partners to ensure fair advantage bidding status is achieved prior to active quotation issuance. Develop cooperative promotional business plan with five (5) key vendors as agreed upon by BDM and Director of Sales.

Education/Qualifications (Preferred):

  • BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Five to ten years of business development, engineering, and/or sales experience, preferably in the Texas region.
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills.

Success Characteristics:

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve financial expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop rapport with key business decision-makers. Demonstrated ability to influence decision makers for a value-added product and system.
  • Strong prioritization, coordination and matrix management skills, self-directed and self-motivated. Strong sense of urgency.
  • Good administrative and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
