Job description

A Construction safety officer is to provide safety management, advice, monitoring, reporting field work and engage staff in programs that ensure safe practice in the workplace. They may have other duties as well, but the primary duty of construction officers is to keep things safe around the job site and investigate and report incidents in a timely manner. This is a roving f position. Must be fluent in English, but bilingual Spanish skills are beneficial.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Field Superintendents, Foreman, Crew personnel, General Contractors and Subcontractors.
• Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections.
• Implement safety measurements/metrics for tracking and reporting safety performance.
• Maintain/Monitor all safety tracking systems and take action to resolve deficiencies. (Driver Scores, Incident Logs, Reports of failure to follow safety procedures Etc.)
• Adhere to all regulations and promote the same from the field staff
• Serve as a liaison between HR and the Field.
• Communicate issues, events, performance and progress to the Ops Manager and HR Manager.
• Conduct risk assessment.
• Enforce preventative measures, including disciplinary actions.
• Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions.
• Check if all the employees are acting in adherence with rules and regulations.
• Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes.
• Oversee workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees' safety.
• This person is going to be responsible to investigate, file and take corrective actions related to claims of general liability, workers comp or automobile accidents/incidents.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• 5 years of related work experience in field of Construction Health and Safety.
• Demonstrated expertise with construction and safety technologies and practices.
• Able to coordinate safety efforts with field staff and external partners.
• Current OSHA 30 certification.
• Knowledge of Federal and State safety and health regulations and USACE - EM 385-1-1 Safety & Health Requirements.
• Strong planning and organizing skills including the ability to manage several work streams simultaneously.
• Excellent communication skills with a capacity to present, discuss, and explain issues coherently and logically both in writing and verbally.
• Clear decision-making ability with the facility to judge complex situations and assess when to escalate issues.
• Proven injury management experience.
• Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• CPR/AED/FA certification
