Director of Nursing

Job Description Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for managing and supervising the correctional nursing unit and maintaining effective communication among correctional and nursing staff, medical and mental health providers, Health Service Administrator (HSA), contract providers, and community partner agencies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
● Monitor and evaluate work performance of nursing staff, counsel employees found in violation of established policies, procedures, protocols, and nursing care standards.
● Monitor compliance using national and state standards, established policies, procedures, nurse protocols, and programs, nursing standards of care, and state legislative guidelines.
● Work with and assist nurse managers and supervisors in ensuring that all clinics are supplied with functioning equipment, has needed supplies and equipment, services are provided unhindered, and assist providers when needed.
● Cover after hour and weekend call every 3rd week
● Follow all rules, regulations, and protocols.

Minimum Requirements
Education:
● Graduate from an accredited registered nursing program.
● Unencumbered Massachusetts RN license
● Five years of clinical, acute care, community based health care experience
● Current CPR certification
● Previous experience as Director or Assistant Director of Nursing preferred
● Previous correctional experience preferred

● Suffolk County House of Correction
● Boston, MA
Schedule
● 40 hours/week
● Monday-Friday
● Covers after-hours and weekend call every 3rd week
