Description

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and part of the Leadership Committee, the Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and directing all nursing and medical assistant services at Fenway Health, as well as overseeing primary care, specialties, infection control, central sterilization processing, and occupational health for the entire organization.

Representative Duties:

Oversees Nursing Leadership Team by providing direct supervision to, and coordination of, Site Nurse Managers, Site Care Managers, Occupational Health Nurse Lead, Sterile Processing Department Manager, and the Infection Preventionist/Professional Development nurse.

Works with Nursing Leadership Team to plan, organize, and direct all nursing services within the Medical Department

Defines the philosophy, purpose, policies and procedures, and standards for RN, LPN, and MA care within the Medical Department

Ensures adequate RN, LPN, and MA staffing and competency throughout the Medical Department

Fosters an environment in which each RN, LPN, and MA practices to the top of their license, certification, and/or skillset and role

Introduces nursing innovations by piloting new roles and care delivery models with the primary purpose of making patient care more safe, effective, timely, efficient, equitable, patient-centered, and family-centered

Generates and implements both an onboarding and a continuing education curriculum for RN's, LPN's, and MA's, aimed at maximizing staff retention and professional development

Collaborates with other Management Team members as well as other clinical leaders within the organization on issues of patient care, clinical quality, compliance, customer service, utilization management, care management, patient access, system redesign, safety, and health center strategy.

Participates in the organization's readiness programs for regulatory surveys, including Joint Commission, NCQA, DPH, FTCA, and HRSA site visits.

Reviews and acts on Press Ganey, incident reports, and other feedback relating to nursing care

Evaluates clinic access data and works with clinical directors to improve wait times for nursing services

Develops Medical Department budget, together with the Medical Director, the Medical Operations Director, and the Chief Operating Officer

Revises and maintains the organization's infection control and occupational health policies, together with the Infection Preventionist/Professional Development nurse.

Attends all required meetings; these include, but may not be limited to:

Fenway Health Management Team Meeting (weekly)

Medical Department Staff Meeting (monthly)

Medical Managers Meeting (weekly)

Fenway Health All-Staff Meeting (monthly)

Quality Council Meeting (monthly)

Clinical Committee Meeting (q1-3 months)

Environment of Care Meeting (q1-3 months)

HIV Committee Meeting (monthly)

Performs RN or NP clinical duties as needed

Requirements

Master's degree or higher.

Current Massachusetts RN license.

At least five years of primary care experience as a registered nurse in an ambulatory care setting

Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with colleagues, patients, clients and vendors across the spectrum of diversity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, national origin and immigrant status, religious or spiritual identity, disability (physical, mental, emotional and developmental), veteran status, and/or limited English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least seven years of nurse management experience

Experience with working within a complicated healthcare system with multiple product lines.

Process improvement or LEAN training

Working Conditions

OSHA Category 1: involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues

Physical Requirements

Frequently required: lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs.

Occasional required: lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs.

Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus
