Description

Infectious Disease (ID) Prevention Programs at Fenway Health operate within the Public Health Division/AIDS Action Committee. This position is grant funded. This funding supports efforts to prevent the spread of HIV, Hepatitis C, STIs, and other infectious diseases using harm reduction strategies, screening for infection, and linkage to care.

Under the direction of the Sexual Health Program Manager, Public Health Division at Fenway Health, this position is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing innovative and comprehensive outreach modalities to reach and engage individuals at high risk for infectious diseases (HIV,STI,HCV) specifically: men who have sex with men (MSM), Transgender (TG), and people who inject drugs (PWID). This position serves as the content expert, team leader and coordinator for all outreach activities implemented by the public health prevention programs.

Representative Duties:

Establishes and implements community outreach and engagement programming goals and objectives - content expert

  • Design and implement a robust community outreach program
  • Compile community events and create schedule of presentation, attendance and involvement.
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate information is shared with community and target audiences
  • Identify and address barriers that inhibit communities from actively engaging in sexual health services and harm reduction services
  • Develops plans to utilize, update, recycle outreach materials already in existence, and develops new curricula and outreach materials geared toward MSM and TG populations, and PWID
  • Engage community to inform and educate about Fenway's sexual health services for MSM and TG populations, and services for PWID
  • Stay current on community changing information or attitudes regarding sexual health prevention, testing, treatment and linkage to care services
  • Access and foster relationships with new community partners and identify opportunities for collaboration
  • Work in collaboration with other Community Engagement programs and managers at Fenway to ensure collaboration and sharing of ideas.
  • Coordinate and engage with communications department of the organization to ensure accurate and timely messaging through websites, blogs, newsletters, etc.
  • Works in collaboration with Communications Department to develop innovative and creative culturally appropriate outreach materials.

Leads and coordinates the implementation of outreach plans

  • Develop plan for implementation and monitoring of the outreach strategy, including: targeting outreach through internet access, media campaigns, bar and street outreach efforts, virtual peer education groups
  • Strengthen current outreach plan for PWID
  • Function as a liaison between Fenway's public health prevention programs and community partners
  • Develop outreach protocols, including data collection tools if applicable
  • Collaborates with the Sexual Health Program Manager, along with other managers in the Prevention Department, to develop and integrate programming.
  • Identify resources (educational materials, trainings) for public health prevention staff on outreach skills and competencies, cultural competence, motivational interviewing, harm reduction and safer sex education.
  • Assess barriers to reach marginalized and underserved populations with a focus on BIPOC individuals and non-English speakers, and propose alternate outreach strategy
  • Include HIV/STI/Hep C testing on outreach activities and develop strategies to ensure individuals tested are linked to and retained in care
  • Provide guidance and ongoing support to staff assigned with outreach tasks.
  • Evaluates outreach efforts on an ongoing basis and revises plan according to met or unmet target goals.
  • Assists with logistics and participates in outreach efforts directly.

Provides Ongoing Evaluation of Accrual Goals

  • Develops reporting mechanisms and maintains information related to outreach goals
  • Develops dashboard reports detailing outreach efforts across prevention programs and makes recommendations to department leadership as appropriate

Manages Communication with Collaborators, Community partners and program Managers

  • Maintains regular communication with outreach partners and collaborators, and program management staff as needed
  • Oversees the completion of outreach tasks assigned to team members.
  • Oversees reporting requirements to meet program and funder requirements.
  • Manages and completes other tasks related to outreach projects as needed.
  • Works closely with program directors, managers, to develop outreach plans.

Performs related duties as required

Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in related field
  • 3-5 years in the field of public health, with at least 2 years designing and implementing community based outreach initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate outreach strategies
  • Experience working in communities heavily impacted by HIV, STI, HCV
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with colleagues, patients, clients and vendors across the spectrum of diversity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, national origin and immigrant status, religious or spiritual identity, disability (physical, mental, emotional and developmental), veteran status, and/or limited English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse communities, particularly communities of color and gay/lesbian/ bisexual/transgender communities, and PWID
  • Bi-lingual
  • Experience working in a grant-funded environment with accountability to funders
