Position Summary:

The Account Manager for Carolina Beverage Group manages the relationships with current and prospective commercial customers. This role is responsible for day-to-day activities and interactions with our customers to ensure that Carolina Beverage Group meets the needs of our customers, and our customers maintain their obligations to us. The successful candidate must be well-versed in beverage manufacturing processes and proficient in activities and communications relative to pricing, contracts, planning, manufacturing and logistics. The Account Manager will also play an important role in project management of both customer and internal projects and have regular interactions with key members of the external and internal teams, including collaboration with Finance and Quality for regular transaction activity, projects and issue resolution. Additional responsibilities will include engagement in strategic and long-term planning activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and create strong customer relationships across all parts of customer organization that interacts with Carolina Beverage
  • Ensure customers’ production requirements are understood and followed by the organization
  • Ensure customers’ production volumes are in accordance with any commitment from Carolina Beverage and that North Carolina facility is likewise meeting requirements to customer
  • Identify new opportunities with customer(s)
  • Establish and oversee internal budgets with the company and external budgets with the client
  • Work with internal management team to negotiate contracts with customer as needed; establish timeline of performance
  • Collaborate with managers and team members from other departments dedicated to the same client account to ensure the highest quality of service and production is being provided
  • Plan and present reports on account progress, goals, and quarterly initiatives to share with team members, stakeholders, and possible use in future case studies or company training
  • Must work across various Carolina Beverage departments to assist, coordinate and lead customer activities such as new product development, order administration, forecasting and planning, production issues and changes, quality procedures and event management and post-production activities such as warehouse management, outbound logistics and accounts receivable
  • Responsible for leading cross-functional teams, as needed, to best communicate and manage the needs of both the customer and Carolina Beverage group while ensuring that we maximize the objectives of the organization including stakeholder safety, food quality and safety and profitable growth
  • Lead or assist with customer visits to Carolina Beverage Group manufacturing facilities, as needed
  • Visit customer each year as needed for either project activities or to maintain or build relationships
  • Communicate on daily basis w/ SVP Commercial Sales regarding current activities and issues with customers
  • Handle customer inquiries regarding product info, planning, production, warehouse and new activities
  • Compile weekly and monthly commercial and customer reports as needed
  • Work with other parts of the organization as needed to assist with communication to customers and partners
  • Complete and submit weekly work & travel logs including reimbursable receipts and expense reports to Sales Manager
  • Back up other Account Manager(s)/the Commercial team as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent job-related experience) with a focus on food or beverage manufacturing processes, marketing or finance
  • Minimum 2 years sales or similar account management experience
  • Experience/working knowledge of food and/or beverage manufacturing processes, including processing, filling and packaging, to best support needs of customer and the company is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong presentation capability
  • Ability to understand the consumer beverage market along with how to sell our products into this market on a profitable basis
  • Strong project management experience is preferred
  • Ambitious and ability to lead, direct and hold people accountable
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations while continuing to provide excellent customer service
  • Able to travel occasionally as needed

About Carolina Beverage

The Carolina Beverage Corporation was started in Salisbury, NC by a general store owner named LD Peeler. Peeler first began distributing a soft drink called Mint Cola. In 1917 during a World War I sugar shortage, LD Peeler began experimenting with other flavors and developed the soft drink Cheerwine. Today Cheerwine is the primary beverage sold by the company. The company is still based in Salisbury and is privately owned and managed by the same founding family, five generations of whom have worked there. 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Cheerwine.
