Alabama State University, Academic Affairs, invites applications to fill the position of Administrative Assistant for the Office of Academic Affairs. Duties and responsibilities: The selected candidate will provide confidential administrative support and perform or coordinate secretarial work for senior staff. This position requires active participation in the organization's day-to-day operations, completion of assignments and is responsible for decisions that regularly relate to highly sensitive matters. These decisions may concern the appropriate application and interpretation of policies and procedures to routine matters. The Administrative Assistant will report to a Vice President or higher level personnel, answer incoming communications (e.g. phone calls, emails, correspondence) and direct to appropriate staff; respond to general questions regarding programs as appropriate; process and respond to initial requests for information; proof letters; file, retrieve, copy, and fax documents; assist management staff in maintaining contact information via an on-line information/tracking system (database); provide word processing assistance as requested; provide project support as needed; coordinate meeting schedules and venues as needed, maintain organization-wide roster and contact information sheets for distribution, and perform other duties as assigned.An Associate degree in Office Administration or related field with 2 years of administrative, secretarial or office management experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A typing proficiency exam of 40 net words per minute is also required. Proficiency exams administered by ASU's College of Education, and state Employment Service Centers are accepted.
