US National Nuclear Security Administration is Hiring a Budget Analyst Near Washington, DC

Duties

As a Budget Analyst, you will:

  • Apply fundamental knowledge of the federal budget process and the principles of Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution to perform, analytical assignments of varying difficulty and complexity.
  • Consolidate, compile, summarize, and utilize budget data from a variety of documents such as accounting records, work authorizations and provides information in the appropriate formats, including Approved Funding Programs and budget execution tables.
  • Provide technical advice to program elements on the status and availability of funds in different budget accounts and on all aspects of the budget process for assigned program area.
  • Prepare narrative statements in support of statistical information, schedules, and back up material for responding to specific requests from Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), or Congressional Staff.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-01, NU-02 or GS-07/08. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Implementing budget planning, programming, budget estimating and execution activities associated with federal or state government; or a private business's annual budget and conducting data reporting and/or analysis activities.
Examples of Specialized Experience:

  • Analyzing strategic plans and performance measures.
  • Developing justification for proposed funding requests.
  • Preparing financial documents, reports, or budgets.
  • Analyzing business or financial data.

"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. If you are eligible for career transition assistance plans such as ICTAP or CTAP, you must meet the definition of "well qualified" which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
