What You'll Do

The Senior Accountant will aid in monthly general ledger management, managing key G/L accounts to ensure monthly close and other financial processes run efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

Work Standards

  • Continuously identify and implement work process improvements to streamline accounting methods and processes ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
  • Analyze trends in budget expenditures, make recommendations for streamlining costs or program improvements
  • Review reports for consistency, accuracy, and compliance with various funding sources
  • Continuously identify and implement work process improvements to streamline accounting methods and processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provide analytical support in year-end audits, as well as audit preparation
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of all Agency information
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Fiscal Management

  • Manage general ledger accounts and required entries for assigned areas such as: investments, prepaids, gift restrictions and bi-weekly payroll entries
  • Review credit card coding monthly to identify errors, and coach/train staff on corrections
  • Responsible for preparation of ad-hoc financial reports for internal stakeholders
  • Responsible for various private grant and contributions accounting functions, including preparation of required reports and documentation for internal stakeholders and respective donors, as needed
  • Analyze trends in budget expenditures, make recommendations for streamlining costs or program improvements
  • Ensure reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts are performed monthly
  • Responsible for timeliness, accuracy, and reconciliation of monthly close areas, as assigned

  • Facilitate communications within team and with other departments as needed
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statement audit, 990 and other required filings as needed
  • Cross-training staff as needed for individual and team development
  • Works closely with the Director of Corporate Finance and other management to ensure operations are effectively and efficiently supporting and meeting department and organizational goals and objectives
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with management and internal and external customers to ensure program needs, goals, and objectives
  • Participates in weekly internal meetings

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area of study; additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of required education
  • 3 years of accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Experience in supporting internal teams with a customer service approach
  • Proven skills in written and verbal communication, especially interpersonal skills
  • Integrity, professionalism, and dedicated work ethic
  • Success in working on a team
  • Personal and professional confidence accompanied by a sense of humor and empathy toward others
  • Self-motivated and proven ability to work as a member of a high-performance team
  • Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of accounting experience
  • Certified Public Account (CPA) or master’s degree (MBA, MPA)
  • Public accounting experience

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

  • This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time
  • Position may work in a child facility and have limited exposure to children
  • Lift, push, pull, move up to 25 lbs.
